The one in 2025 was the first edition of the World Airlines Awards by Skytrax which saw ITA Airways part of the Lufthansa Group. Of Italy's largest airline (and also of Air Dolomiti). we have already dealt with in a previous article.
In this article:
But How other Group carriers fared at the Skytrax Awards., which as such affect Italian passengers more than others given the increasing synergies that will connect them to ITA?

The 'parent company' Lufthansa went so-so., so much so that it can be included among the big disappointments of this year's edition of the awards: despite having introduced a completely new product in four classes, the Allegris, gained just three positions in the ranking of the world's best carriers, stopping at 15th place and remaining, thus, far from the top 10 of which it was a part for years from 2016 to 2019.

The only 'gem' is the record for the best first class lounge in the world, the one in Frankfurt. While the award as Europe's 'most family friendly' company is a really meager consolation for the Germans.

Better than them, in Skytrax's global ranking, did. Swiss, which finished in 11th place, slipping out of the top 10 in which it had occupied the tenth position in 2024. The Swiss carrier does not appear in the top 20 in the world for First, Business and Economy cabins, but Is ranked 17th for that of premium economy. And its Zurich First Class lounge is the second largest in the world behind Lufthansa's in Frankfurt and ahead of Air France's La Premiere in Paris CDG.

The fourth largest company in the group by fleet size, Austrian Airlines, ranked 23rd in the world, gaining five positions on the 2024 also thanks to awards for 'Best cabin Crew in Europe' and 'Best airline staff in Europe'.

Brussels Airlines is definitely the Group's 'Achilles' heel', at least according to the ratings of passengers who filled out Skytrax forms. The Belgian company is not among the top 100 in the world and is not among the top in any category.

On the other hand, the one who made his 'piggy' figure at Skytrax's Parisian event is Eurowings, which would theoretically be the Group's low-cost (although recently announced a new business class which beats all other premium classes on Europe's short- and medium-haul flights, with the exception of The one mounted by ITA on its A321neo): was voted fourth best low-cost airline in the world and best low-cost airline in Europe, also finishing 40th 'overall' among all world airlines.

To close, The group's two 'leisure' companies: well Swiss Edelweiss Air, which recently introduced A350-900s to its fleet and which results fifth in its category worldwide, although it does not appear in the top 100 in the world, less well Discover Airlines Which does not figure in any ranking.
