Drama at theBergamo Orio al Serio airport. One person is reportedly entered the runway area and was allegedly sucked in by the engine of an aircraft taking off. Because of this, airport operations have been halted. And suspended flights.

Also according to the first information released, the plane the person was running toward would be a Volotea's Airbus A319 bound for Asturias. The aircraft, according to reconstruction, was completing maneuvers away from the apron. It is not yet clear whether the person in question was an airport employee or a passenger; information is still fragmentary.

As reported by the online newspaper Bergamo News, following this dramatic incident, Sacbo - the company that manages Orio al Serio airport - released a note in which it announced "that flight operations at Milan Bergamo airport were suspended at 10:20 a.m. due to an incident that occurred on the taxiway, the causes of which are being investigated by law enforcement agencies."
Flights are diverted to other airports: as of 11:50 a.m. there were already one flight diverted to Bologna, two to Verona, and six to Milan Malpensa. Eight departing flights are reportedly canceled.
Air traffic resumed shortly after 12 noon.
