With the introduction of Varna, they rise to 10 active routes between Bergamo and Eastern Europe served by Wizz Air. The airline, in the first six months of 2025 alone, operated nearly 3,900 flights to and from Bergamo, transporting over 797,000 passengers.
Varna is the second Bulgarian destination (after Sofia) reachable directly from Bergamo. A city with a long history and strong tourist vocation, it offers numerous attractions including the Cathedral of the Assumption, the Archaeological Museum, the Roman Baths, the Sea Garden (large park overlooking the coast) and the Opera House. The coastline in the area is known for the sandy beaches and for cultural and scenic offerings.
The new flight is part of a drive to strengthen connections between Italy and Eastern Europe, with a focus on the accessibility of destinations that are still underserved by mass tourism.
