Small premise: I was literally "dicking around" to write an article on the points Flying Blue And how to use them. Since Revolut has also arrived. there have become so many ways to accumulate points in Air France's loyalty program.
In this article:
The goal was to talk about some changes, and I needed examples to include, because with screenshots it is easier to explain concepts.
So poking around in the calendar I came up with the following. Several dates to travel from Italy to French Polynesia, using only 25k FB miles, without a doubt one of the best ways to use points from the Franco-Dutch loyalty program. The point, however, is that it is more than 22h flight hours, not exactly a walk in the park.
Did you get your flight cancelled, miss your connection, land late?
You could get up to 600€ compensation per person
We are talking about literally flying to the edge of the world, in the middle of nowhere and away from everything and everyone. One of those places where in the event of World War III, probably, the human species could continue to live as if nothing had happened, also because no one would think of wasting a bomb to hit this part of the world.
In fact, the direct flight from Paris makes a stopover in Los Angeles, just enough time to clean up, change crews, refuel, and depart. Of course "normal" people break the flight by doing a couple of days in LA, But it's still 12 hours to get to LA and 10 to get to the middle of nowhere, where a multitude of islets become sovereign states, but not Papeete since we are talking about the most remote of the Overseas Territories.
So out of curiosity I looked at how much a business class ticket cost. And in the midst of tickets with costs comparable to a trip to La Premiere, indeed even much more expensive, I saw a 60-thousand number pop up.
So I thought of writing an article about it, but then curiosity assailed me and I tried to see if there were by any chance two places at that rate. And as happens in these situations I picked up the phone and said to Marika, "Shall we do something crazy?" . Explained what the destination was she said, "And Bete where do we leave her?" and I replied. If there is a third place I will book for everyone.
Said and done, in fact I spent even less thanks to the fact that FB discounts children's tickets by 25%. In the end 3 business class tickets cost me the "pittance" of 155k FB miles plus just under 800€ in taxes. Of course flexible and cancellable tickets. Dulcis in fundo the flight is operated on the A350/900, Air France's flagship and outfitted with the new suites and thanks to my status I didn't even have to pay to choose the place for me and the rest of the family, thus the two front rows, perfect for tackling a trip of this size.
It may not be La Premiere, but I think it's as close as you can get to what one might want aboard an Air France aircraft not outfitted with first-class cabins.
Of course I don't have a return ticket yet, but for the time being I'm enjoying a CRAZY savings, also because I did not have to transfer a single point from Revolut or American Express, but drew from my Flying Blue account, so I can safely say that the flight from Milan cost me only the taxes i.e. 270 euros per passenger.
