It's official: the direct connection between Milan Malpensa and Miami, which has been awaited for years by travelers, frequent flyers and insiders, will be a reality starting March 29, 2026. Signing it is American Airlines, which with this new route strengthens its presence in Italy and consolidates Malpensa as a strategic hub for transatlantic air traffic.
Direct flight Milan/Miami
In this article:
The flight operated by Boeing 787-8 will take off daily from Milan at 2:05 p.m. and land in Miami at 6:40 p.m. local time, while the reverse leg will leave Miami at 8 p.m. with arrival in Malpensa at 11:30 a.m. the following day. It will be the only direct connection between the two cities, making American Airlines the only carrier to offer this non-stop route.
After New York (JFK) and Philadelphia (PHL), Miami thus becomes the third U.S. hub from which American connects Milan directly. And it is not a random choice: demand between Italy and Florida is constantly growing, thanks to Miami's tourist attractiveness, its beaches, its nightlife, but also its role as a gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean.

The statements
"We are excited to connect Milan with our dynamic hub in Miami," said José A. Freig, Vice President International and Inflight Dining Operations for American Airlines. "Italy has become our second busiest European destination and we look forward to welcoming passengers aboard our new service."
Of the same tenor were the words of Luigi Battuello, Chief Commercial Officer of SEA Aeroporti di Milano: "The return of the direct flight to Miami confirms Malpensa's key role in connections with the United States. In the first seven months of the year, long-haul traffic grew 14% and the U.S. is confirmed as the first non-European market. Miami is one of the most popular destinations for Italian travelers and this route is a key bridge between the two sides of the Atlantic."
In conclusion
Tickets for the Milan-Miami flight will go on sale Aug. 11 on aa.com and the official American Airlines app. For those who have been waiting for this flight for a long time, the wait is (almost) over.
