From Milan to Tokyo with free Wi-Fi: ANA will also bring ultrafast connectivity to Boeing 787-9s

There is news that will make passengers departing from Milan Malpensa to Japan: All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan's largest airline and a member of Star Alliance, has announced the gradual introduction of the Free high-speed Wi-Fi throughout its international fleet, including the routes operated with Boeing 787-9s, just like the daily one from Milan to Tokyo Haneda.

Starting in 2026, All of the company's long-haul 787-9s - 19 in total - will be equipped with the Viasat system, the same one already installed on some 767s. It is a connection capable of delivering performance from the ground even in flight, including the ability to use video streaming services (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc.), as long as you have an active subscription.

"Passengers are increasingly demanding to stay connected while in the air, and thanks to Viasat, we can offer them an experience that is comparable to that on the ground, free of charge and available in all travel classes," said Tomoji Ishii, Executive Vice President Customer Experience at ANA.

With this move, ANA aligns itself with the most innovative companies globally, Offering free Wi-Fi in economy, premium economy and business on intercontinental routes. ANA Wi-Fi expansion: numbers and goals

The plan is to install the Viasat system on 43 aircraft within the next few years:

• 6 Boeing 767-300ERs

• 18 Boeing 777-9 (from 2026)

• 19 Boeing 787-9 (from 2026)

With an ambitious goal: Cover more than 80% of the international fleet by 2030 with Free high-speed Wi-Fi for all.

The system chosen by ANA is the Viasat Amara, the latest generation solution from the American satellite telecommunications giant. This guarantees global coverage and high performance, including on transcontinental routes such as that between Italy and Japan.
