September 1 is less than a week away, the date that will mark the end of the relationship between Delta and ITA Airways, a partnership initiated by Alitalia and also continued by the new airline.
In this article:
AZ has gone out Officially left the SkyTeam alliance on May 1, 2025 and should go into Star Alliance by 2026, as stipulated in the agreement with the Lufthansa Group.
At present this is the only announced divorce, but it is to be expected in the coming months, as of the end of the summer season, other agreements will also cease to operate.
End of Volare member benefits on Delta flights

Until August 31, 2025, Volare members will continue to receive benefits on board Delta-operated flights, depending on membership level:
- Plus: extra baggage (up to 10 kg), priority check-in and boarding
- Premium: extra baggage (up to 20 kg), fast track, priority baggage handling
- Executive: same benefits as premium level

As of September 1, all these benefits will be discontinued. Volare members will no longer have access to priority services or additional allowances on Delta flights.
Rules also change for SkyMiles members
Delta's SkyMiles members will also see changing conditions for flying ITA Airways. Until August 31, 2025, it will still be possible to earn miles on:
- Flights marketed and operated by ITA Airways
- Delta flights marketed but operated by ITA
- ITA flights marketed but operated by Delta
All other flights-particularly those involving SkyTeam partners-will no longer qualify for mileage accrual. In addition, award tickets to ITA must be issued by August 31, 2025 and used within one year from the date of issuance.
In conclusion
Slowly the umbilical cord linking ITA Airways with other Skyteam airlines has its days numbered, as does ITA Airwyas loyalty program Volare, with less than 3 months to go before the Dec. 31 deadline, still there is no official news about the future of statuses, points and credit cards.
