Last October 1, 2025 Taiwan officially adopted the Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC), a compulsory digital system for the registration of travelers arriving in the country. This new procedure replaces the traditional paper forms distributed on airplanes: Taiwan, in fact, aligns with other Asian countries such as Thailand, Malaysia e Indonesia, In which similar systems are already in place.

What is the Taiwan Digital Arrival Card
The TWAC is a form to be filled out for free online that collects vital information for Taiwanese immigration authorities: personal details, travel details and planned accommodation in Taiwan. Once submitted, you will receive a confirmation email with the electronic document and a barcode. Beware, however: as mentioned, in fact, the service is completely free, so the advice is to avoid all those websites that require a payment for completion.

Who should fill out the TWAC
The TWAC is mandatory for almost all travelers entering Taiwan who, until last September 30, filled out the paper landing card. This includes: foreign nationals with visa-free entry (such as Italian, U.S., British, Australian), visitors with short-term visas for tourism or business, residents of Hong Kong and Macau with multiple entry permits, Chinese nationals with multiple tourist permits, Taiwanese citizens without registration of local residence. On the other hand, holders of residence permits or those residing in the country, diplomatic passport holders and transit passengers who do not pass through immigration are exempt from filling out the TWAC.
How and when to fill out the TWAC
The procedure requires only 3-5 minutes And, as mentioned, it has to be done online. Once you enter the official website, after verifying your email and entering the verification code received in your box, you will be able to proceed with entering the traveler data: passport, nationality, type of visa (or exemption), occupation, email.

Having done this, you will then also need to enter the trip details: flight number, date of arrival, reason for travel (tourism, business), accommodation address; then, after rechecking all the data entered into the system, it will be possible to accept and send the declaration. The TWAC will, then, be sent to our mailbox.: it is advisable to print it out or, at any rate, keep it in your smartphone as immigration officers may ask for it upon arrival.
The form can be submitted from 2 days before arrival. The 'forgetful,' however, need not worry: on board flights, and even at departure airports, QR codes will be available to access the portal.
