In September, we had reported on TFC about ITA Airways' demonstration flight between Linate and Fiumicino., first official test with two dogs beyond the current limits. The experiment helped define the procedures now included in the Guidelines, updated on the basis of technical evaluations accumulated in recent months.

According to technical assessments, dogs up to 30 kg can be placed in the cabin without impacting operational safety and passenger comfort. The new regulations also set a maximum limit of six animals per flight, including all sizes.

The operators concerned will have to follow the procedures laid down by ENAC and obtain specific authorization. These measures cover boarding, in-flight handling and interaction with other passengers, as well as security aspects.
The dossier submitted to ICAO
The Italian path has also already been outlined at ICAO, where it has received attention as a possible reference model. ENAC will continue to monitor the implementation of the new rules and modify them based on operational evidence from the first few months.
