The year 2026 will mark a turning point for Calabria's international connectivity. Wizz Air significantly expands network from Lamezia Terme, introducing four routes to Central and Eastern Europe and returning to invest in the main regional airport after a two-year absence.
Bratislava opens season: first capital connected

The November 14, 2025 the first flight took off Lamezia Terme-Bratislava, operated with Airbus A321neo and active twice a week. The arrival of the Slovakian capital adds a fast-growing tourist city, overlooking the Danube and rich in history, to the Calabrian network. For Lamezia, it is the first step toward a stronger network with Central Europe.
From April 30 comes Budapest: three-weekly to a new European capital

The year 2026 will see the debut of another capital city: Budapest, connected from Lamezia as of April 30 with three weekly frequencies, again with A321neo. A popular destination, Wizz Air's headquarters offers Calabrians direct access to Central and Eastern Europe and opens up new opportunities for incoming tourism to the region.

The upgrading will continue with the launch, from the March 31, 2026, of routes to Sofia e Katowice. Two strategic connections: the Bulgarian capital brings Lamezia to the heart of the Balkans, while Katowice strengthens the axis to southern Poland, a fast-growing market with solid connections to Italy.
A stronger network for southern Italy

With Bratislava, Budapest, Sofia e Katowice, Wizz Air will bring to four its active routes from Lamezia Terme in the 2026 summer season. A package that expands the region's accessibility, diversifies the available destinations and strengthens the airport's role in southern Italy. For Calabria, it opens a growth phase that focuses on mobility, tourism and more direct integration with Central and Eastern European markets.
