Sardinia puts the turbo On the connectivity front. Or, at least, so it seems. With the closing of the New Routes - whose we have written in the past few months - the Sardinia Region takes home a maxi-package of eight links - some of which unpublished - involving all three airports on the Island.
In this article:
This is no small news; and those who travel to and from Sardinia can well understand this. These are routes that, in fact, balances change: two internal links that will hopefully improve the mobility of Sardinians and six more connections that will allow the Island to 'look out' to new markets e new destinations.
EasyJet, Volotea e Aeroitalia are the carriers that have responded in attendance, confirming-despite the shortage of aircraft that is holding back many European airlines-that Sardinia remains an attractive and competitive market.
The new routes: what changes for Sardinia's three airports
They are 8, in total, the new connections who will receive - as stipulated in the announcement - the 50% coverage of airport costs. for the next three years. EasyJet will operate the routes Cagliari-Bordeaux e Cagliari-Nice; Volotea, on the other hand, will fly from Alghero a Lyon and by Olbia a Seville; finally, Aeroitalia will connect Cagliari with Istanbul e Lamezia Spa. Not only that: the Italian company born in 2022 will also manage the two internal routes, l'Olbia-Cagliari and theAlghero-Cagliari.

Cagliari-Elmas "Mario Mameli" Airport.
The two intra-regional flights, in fact, represent the news plus relevant: the goal is not only to make it easier for residents to travel, but also to offer new possibilities for connecting to the rest of Italy and Europe.
Transportation Councillor Barbara Manca stresses how the response of the three companies shows that Sardinia remains a competitive market, even in an international context marked by high demand and a shortage of aircraft: "These connections represent a first milestone, but also the start of a broader strategy to make Sardinia connected 12 months a year, with benefits for residents, businesses and tourism."
Another particularly anticipated route is the Cagliari-Istanbul, operated by Aeroitalia. The Turkish capital, also aided by its strategic location, is one of the world's most important hubs offering dozens and dozens of connections to Asia, Africa and America. For the Island it certainly represents an opportunity to access new markets that are currently difficult to reach (think, for example, of the Middle East and Asia). Not only that: the opening of this route can encourage non-European tourism and even business traffic.

When will the flights leave
The operational phase is already underway: companies will schedule the new connections between June and July 2026, with the goal of consolidating the routes and turning them into a stable element of the Sardinian network.
In conclusion
The hope is that 2026 will represent, for Sardinia, the year of new routes: After the announcement of the first intercontinental flight from the Island, more links are also finally arriving. The announcement New Routes marks a step forward in Sardinia's connectivity: more links with Europe, access to a first-rate intercontinental hub and, most importantly of all of the links interior Among the Island's airports.
