There is a small update ce will make a few, but careful, users happy: Starting today, you can book an ITA Airways award ticket using Aeroplan miles, or Air Canada's loyalty program.
In this article:

The flag carrier of the North American nation has what many people, including me, believe is ihe second best loyalty program and by far the best in the Star Alliance family. Unfortunately, however, this is not reciprocal, i.e., it is not possible to use Volare miles (in deadline next March 30) to book Air Canada tickets.
The novelty

ITA Airways' rapprochement with Star Alliance can also be seen in these agreements, after United even Air Canada allows its members to book AZ tickets using miles from the respective loyalty program.

Aeroplan's strength, compared to all other loyalty programs, is the partnership with so many carriers that do not participate in the same alliance, including Etihad and Emirates, which is why many users love this card. I would also mention that, thanks to the partnership with Marriott, there is always an active Status Match option for elite users.
ITA Airways award tickets.

Domestic routes cost 7,500 miles in economy and double that in business plus about €60 in taxes and surcharges.

Flying from New York to Rome costs 40k Aeroplan miles in economy plus about 47€ in surcharges. The same number of miles Air Canada requires to fly aboard Lufthansa airlines.
I have not been able to find intercontinental business class tickets at the moment, but I assume the cost will be the same as that operated by Lufthansa. I spent 70k miles to fly business from NY to Milan. last summer.
In conclusion
Great thing, just too bad it's not reciprocal I would have found how to make sense of the over 700,000 miles Flying in my account.
