TAP Air Portugal continues to push hard on its expansion into Brazil and announces two important new features: on the one hand a new international route to São Luís (Maranhão), on the other hand a increase in frequencies toward the south of the country, with a fourth weekly rotation at Porto Alegre e Florianópolis starting in the summer.
New Lisbon - São Luís
In this article:
The first news is the opening of the link Lisbon (LIS) - São Luís (SLZ), operational from October 26, 2026, with two flights per week.
Flights will be operated with Airbus A321LR, configured with 16 seats in business e 155 in economy, and they will follow a triangular course: Lisbon - São Luís - Fortaleza - Lisbon.
Frequencies and times
- Lisbon → São Luís: Monday and Thursday, departure 19:05, arrival 00:10 of the next day
- São Luís → Lisbon (via Fortaleza): Tuesday and Friday, departure 01:40, arrival 03:00 in Fortaleza, restart 04:30, arrival in Lisbon 14:50

With this opening, São Luís becomes 15th Brazilian city served by TAP with direct flights, further consolidating the company's role as a Europe's first airline by presence in Brazil.
Summer 2026: more flights to southern Brazil

The second novelty concerns the strengthening of connections to the south: TAP will introduce a fourth weekly frequency On the routes:
- Lisbon-Porto Alegre: new frequency on Monday, as of July 6, 2026
- Lisbon - Florianópolis: new frequency Sunday, as of July 5, 2026
The message is clear: TAP wants to strengthen its position as a "bridge" between Brazil and Europe, not only on the major traditional routes, but also on destinations that are growing (touristically and otherwise) and benefit so much from access via European hub.
In conclusion
For Italian - and more generally European - travelers, the TAP strategy is always the same, and it works: Lisbon hub + widespread network in Brazil = many combinations with only one stopover, often with sensible connection times and competitive fares, especially when TAP decides to "push" new routes or capacity increases.
