Easyjet, with its 22 aircraft, is still a long way off. But Wizz Air, in terms of its fleet based at Milan Malpensa, will become the second force at the Milan airport as of October 25, when a tenth Airbus (a 240-seat A321neo) will join the other nine already, allowing, according to a note from the company, an increase in supply on an annual basis of about 500,000 seats and consolidating the airport's role as the Hungarian low-cost's second-largest base in Italy (after Rome Fiumicino).

Starting in Winter 2026-2027, a network of 47 routes will radiate from Malpensa with destinations spread across 21 countries in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. The carrier also announced the launch of five new international routes to Dortmund (daily connection from Oct. 25), Bilbao (4-5 weekly frequencies from May 11), Cluj (4 flights per week from May 10), Iasi (three times a week from May 20) and Palma de Mallorca (with a daily connection from May 1).
Alongside the launch of new international destinations, Wizz Air will also strengthen its domestic network from Milan Malpensa, further improving connectivity between northern and southern Italy. The link between Milan Malpensa and Naples will be further reinforced with the Doubling of the daily frequency as of September 1. As early as next summer season Will increase flights to Catania (with 22 weekly frequencies) and those towards Lampedusa (which will be up to seven per week).
Returning to international routes, the airline is expanding capacity on some of the most popular international routes from Milan, including Corfu (2 to 3 flights per week), Heraklion (extended connection from mid-May to October), Tirana (18 to 24 weekly frequencies), Valencia (5 to 9) and Warsaw (7 to 10).
This continued growth reflects the strong demand for Wizz Air's services from the Milan area. Even before the arrival of the tenth aircraft, the company planned to deploy nearly 5.5 million seats from the city, representing an increase of about 19.5% over 2025. Since the start of its operations at Milan Malpensa, Wizz Air has carried more than 18.2 million passengers to and from the airport.
The expansion to Milan is part of Wizz Air's broader growth strategy in Italy. By 2026, the airline plans to offer 27 million seats in the country, operating with a fleet of 36 aircraft deployed at its six Italian bases in Catania, Naples, Rome, Palermo, Milan and Venice. In total, Wizz Air's Italian network includes 290 routes to 33 countries.
