The Louis C. Jacob is one of Hamburg's most iconic hotel addresses: the property's origins go back as far as the 1625, while the name that made him famous came in the 19th century, when the restaurateur and hotelier Louis C. Jacob transformed this house on Elba into a symbolic place of Hanseatic hospitality.
In this article:
Today the hotel combines this historical heritage with a contemporary positioning, so much so that since the July 22, 2025 has joined the Autograph Collection by Marriott. And this was the reason why I decided to stay at this facility during the AIX Expo 2026.

E for the first time I stayed in a hotel awarded two Michelin keys.
Reservation

Every year Are in Hamburg for the interiors fair, Probably the top 5 cities with the most hotels reviewed on TFC, each time in a different hotel and this time also accomplice to Bonvoy's early 2026 promotion I aimed for this facility. The cost of the stay, booking a basic room, was 223€.

The room price, for a 5-star hotel, was super competitive, on the same date the Moxy Altona cost much more not to mention other facilities in town where to accumulate (or use) points, but obviously being "far" from the center has price advantages. If we then add that From basic room I was "promoted" to Suite I absolutely cannot complain about the expense.
Check-in
Let's say the staff was super professional and pleasant, But I had absolutely no feeling of being in a 5-star hotel. No one to open the door for me, there was no concierge ready to take care of my luggage or walk me to my room.

Of course I don't demand the butler of the St Regis, but an attendant to take me to my room (which here was in an annex across the street), to take care of my luggage, to explain what my room offered. None of this, as in any AC Hotel I was given the key and so much goodbye.
Location
It's not your average downtown hotel, but because of this it offers a more exclusive and relaxed atmosphere, with a view that makes it perfect for those seeking charm, quiet and a more authentic contact with the city, while still remaining well connected to major points of interest.

Location is one of its absolute strengths: the Louis C. Jacob is located on the famous Elbchaussee in the elegant and residential part of Hamburg, directly overlooking the river Elba.
But for an avgeek like me the real added value is that on the opposite bank from where the hotel is located is the Airbus factory and Hamburg's private Finkenwerder airport, at which you can see delivery planes taking off and making Back and forth to the iconic Belugas.

You can get there directly from the center by bus #12, by cab, or, if you wish, also by boats that do public transportation on Elba.
Suite

My room was in the building opposite the main building, if you don't want to cross the street there is also an underground passage.
An apartment, with hallway and guest bathroom, a living room with work area.
A spacious room, a marble bathroom and a walk-in closet. Let's say it was almost 2 times my house.

The style is obviously consistent, you're not in a W Hotel and not even at the Renaissance in the city center. It really seems that the landlord has gifted you with his private apartments to pamper you during your stay.
Of course not everything was perfect, starting with the double single mattress, very little 5 stars. The "nineteenth-century" wifi the lack of an outlet near the nightstand and the unusable TV in the room (it was the night of the champions quarterfinals and I would have gladly watched Atletico/Barca).

The view from the living room window gives a glimpse of Elba, but overall it feels like an oasis of peace were it not for the traffic.
The most beautiful welcome gift ever received

Waiting for me on the coffee table in the living room was a sealed envelope and a palette of chocolate and fruit, complete with a bar painted to depict one of the many works of art that are part of this collection.
Needless to say, the only thing I didn't take home was the brush.
The structure
The structure of the Louis C. Jacob, Hamburg, Autograph Collection is that of a five-star historical that focuses more on charm, atmosphere, and personality than impersonal luxury.
It is divided into several two-story buildings and has 84 rooms and suites all different from each other, many with views of Elba, and complements classic environments with spaces designed for a relaxed, upscale stay.
Like the famous Lindenterrasse, the bar, gastronomic offerings and a small wellness area with sauna, relaxation area and fitness room. What makes the Jacob special is not only the comfort, but also the character of the house, which retains a very strong, almost "residential" identity, enhanced by one of the most important private art collections in northern Germany.
The (former) starred restaurant

Inside the hotel is the famous Jacobs Restaurant, for years one of the leading names in Hamburg gastronomy. The restaurant has built its reputation under the leadership of chef Thomas Martin and was awarded with Two Michelin stars for ten consecutive years; today it offers elegant cuisine, less congealed than in the past but still very ambitious, with classic dishes and tasting menus that keep the gastronomic identity of the house high.
Breakfast

Breakfast is served in the dining room of the restaurant, which now no longer boasts the two stars but still remains one of the culinary temples of the region.
A small buffet, with quality products and an a la carte selection from which I couldn't help but try the house eggs.
Star-studded layout and more than good flavors.
In conclusion

Coming there in the summer, with the garden in bloom and enjoying the terrace (and maybe a beluga taking off) at sunset must be quite a sight.Admittedly, it's not super close to downtown, but if you're coming this way, it might be worth it to do the hotel+dinner combo.

Pro
- The location
- The view of the Airbus Factory (and Elba)
Against
- Two beds next to each other, not a real queen
- awkward wi-fi
- no 5-star pampering
