IHG One Rewards lights up summer with new global promotion: Loyalty program members will be able to choose how to accumulate bonus points during stays at the group's hotels, with two different options and unlimited accumulation potential.
In this article:
The promo is simple: once registered, you can choose between 2,000 bonus points every 2 nights or 8,000 bonus points every 4 nights. The choice, however, must be made carefully: once one of the two options is selected, it will not be possible to change it.
How the new IHG One Rewards promo works.
The promotion is for members only IHG One Rewards and will be valid for stays in participating hotels of the IHG Hotels & Resorts group worldwide.

The two options available are:
- 2,000 bonus points for every 2 qualifying nights
- 8,000 bonus points for every 4 qualifying nights

In both cases, the accumulation potential is unlimited: This means that the longer you stay during the promotional period, the more bonus points you can take home.
The real difference is in the pace of accumulation. Those who choose the first option collect the bonus every two nights, thus with more flexibility. On the other hand, those who plan longer stays or more nights spread over the summer can go for the option from 8,000 points for every 4 nights, definitely richer.
Dates to mark: pre-registration from May 6
The phase of pre-registration will be open from May 6 to May 19, 2026. Instead, the period for staying and accumulating bonus points will start from the May 20, 2026 and will end the August 31, 2026.
Those who do not register during the pre-registration phase will still be able to do so during the promotional period, but there is one key detail not to be forgotten: Only stays made after registration count.
Translated: if you sleep in an IHG hotel before you have registered for the promo, those nights will not count toward the bonus, even if they fall within the promotional period.
Beware of conditions: not all stays apply
As always in such cases, the promo has some important conditions. To be considered valid, the stay must be booked with a qualifying tariff and must provide for an expenditure of more than 30 dollars per night, or local currency equivalent.
Excluded from the promotion are:
- the award stays booked with points;
- Points & Cash reservations;
- reservations made through OTAs such as Booking.com, Expedia and similar portals;
- nights made before registration for the promo.
In addition, if more than one room is booked on the same night, the member will receive promotional credit for only one eligible room. And if multiple registered members stay in the same room, only one will be eligible to receive the bonus.
Which option is best to choose?
The choice depends on the type of traveler. Those planning a few short stays, perhaps weekends or two-night trips, should carefully consider the option from 2,000 points for every 2 nights, because it allows the bonus to be unlocked more easily.

On the other hand, those who already know that they have longer stays on their calendar, or several nights between May and August, may find the option from 8,000 points for every 4 nights. For equal nights, in fact, it is the most generous offer.
Let's take a simple example: with 4 qualifying nights, choosing the first option gives you 4,000 bonus points, while choosing the second one results in. 8.000. The difference is obvious.
The risk, however, is registering for the 8,000-point offer and then stopping at 2 or 3 nights-then you won't collect anything. Therefore, the choice should be made on the basis of already planned stays, not on the hope of traveling more.
Bonus points do not count toward status
Another important detail: the bonus points earned from this promotion do not qualify for elite status IHG One Rewards.

This means that they are useful points for redeeming Reward Nights or other redemption opportunities provided by the program, but they do not help to level up or maintain status.
In conclusion
This is an interesting promo especially for those who are already planning IHG stays during the summer. The window is wide, from the May 20 to August 31, 2026, and the fact that the bonus is unlimited makes it potentially very convenient for frequent travelers.
The golden rule is one: register before staying and choose well between the two options, because there is no going back after that.
For those aiming to maximize points, the offer from 8,000 points for every 4 nights is undoubtedly the richest. On the other hand, for those who want to avoid risks and are planning shorter stays, the 2,000 points for every 2 nights may be the most prudent choice.
