Miles&More's attractive offers have practically disappeared with the end of the old fixed award chart.

In this article:

What were once occasions to mark in the diary have now become little more than A showcase of European destinations, often with very questionable real value.

No more long-haul, no more Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian flights in the superofferings of the moment and, this month, not even LOT Polish Airlines. In short: those hoping for a return of the real bargains must rest their souls, at least for now.

We, in fact, had basically stopped talking about it. Not out of snobbery, but because the old Mileage Bargains were something else: they allowed business class flights to North America, Asia, the Middle East or other interesting destinations, with real savings compared to the standard table. Today, however, the perimeter has changed completely.

We only resumed looking at them Because, since last month, inside the superoffer has also entered the ITA Airways. And since Miles&More has now become the program of choice for so many Italians, it was fair to expect something more interesting. Instead, at least for now, we are faced with a rather weak selection.

This month's offerings: few ideas and little value

The travel period indicated for all offers is between the July 15 and August 31, 2026. The promotional rate is the same for all destinations: 12,000 miles in economy instead of 28,000 e 25,000 miles in business class instead of 50,000.

The problem, however, is not so much the number of miles required on the card. The problem is the actual value of the transaction. Using miles for European flights, especially when taxes, surcharges and cash fares often make the ticket purchasable at non-prohibitive prices, makes sense only in very specific cases.

And missing here are just the kind of destinations where the use of miles might make sense. There are no long-haul routes, no Lufthansa group airlines that are more attractive to people living in Italy, no LOT, and most importantly, there aren't even those few new summer routes where redeeming miles could have generated a decent savings, a bit like in the days of the old MilleMiglia when some seasonal ITA/Alitalia routes could turn into good bargains.

    ITA Airways destinations

ITA Airways is the news that had made us look at this page again with curiosity. Too bad the selection is really limited.

ITA Airways destinations on offer are: Rome, Turin, Genoa, Marseille, and London City.

Let's face it: on some of these routes using miles really makes little sense, especially in economy. The risk is to burn a wealth of miles for flights that, in many cases, can be purchased cash for reasonable amounts, saving the miles for more attractive redemptions.

Business class at 25,000 miles may seem more palatable, but again it must be remembered that on European flights we are almost always talking about a "continental" business, with a free middle seat and enhanced service, certainly not a product comparable to a true long-haul business.

    Brussels Airlines destinations

Brussels Airlines offers only one destination: Brussels.

Again, we are looking at a classic European route where the redemption value must be evaluated very carefully. If the cash ticket is cheap, using 12,000 miles plus taxes and surcharges may become an unwise choice. If, on the other hand, availability is found in the high season, on expensive dates, or with little advance notice, then it may have a modicum of logic.

    Luxair destinations

Luxair offers only one destination: Luxembourg.

It is an attractive destination for those who have to go right there, but it can hardly be considered a superoffer capable of making people dream. Here again the reasoning is always the same: the value all depends on the cash price available on the dates requested.

    Eurowings destinations

Eurowings is the airline with the most destinations on offer: Hannover, Cologne/Bonn, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart and Hamburg.

You have Miles&More status, here's how it enhances your travel on board Eurowings
You have Miles&More status, here's how it enhances your travel on board Eurowings

These are all German destinations, useful perhaps for those who have to travel for work or have specific needs, but far removed from the idea of "superoffer" that many Miles&More members remember with nostalgia.

The point is always the same: If the program asks me for 12,000 miles for a European flight in economy, I have to be sure that the cash price is really high. Otherwise I am simply misusing a currency that, already, has become more difficult to value than in the past.

    Why these offerings disappoint

The problem is not ITA, it is not Eurowings, and it is not even individual destinations. The problem is that the word "superoffer" today seems much more generous than the actual content of the page.

Take advantage of Lufthansa's Mileage Bargains to fly until spring with 50% discount
Take advantage of Lufthansa's Mileage Bargains to fly until spring with 50% discount

With the old structure, Miles&More had its own logic: miles were accumulated, you kept an eye on the deals page, and when the right destination came up, you could get a really convenient redemption. Today, however, the program seems to offer discounts on routes where the value of miles is often marginal.

The fact that there are no Lufthansa, Swiss or Austrian flights weighs. The fact that there is no long-haul weighs even more. And the fact that even LOT is not present this month makes the selection even less interesting.

Does it make sense to make reservations?

In general, the answer is: only if you have a specific need. If you have to go to Brussels, Luxembourg, Hamburg, Düsseldorf or London City. on very expensive dates, then it may make sense to do a simulation and compare the mileage price with the cash price. But if you are looking for a smart way to maximize the value of your Miles&More miles, these offers are unlikely to be the answer.

In economy, especially, the risk of getting low value is very high. In business class the matter may be slightly different, but only for those who value priority, in-flight service, travel flexibility and extra comfort. However, it should not be forgotten that we are still talking about European flights.

    In conclusion

This month's Miles&More superoffers confirm a trend that is now evident: the program is not what it used to be. The entry of ITA Airways had kindled a little hope, especially for the Italian market, but so far the result is rather disappointing.

The destinations are there, the nominal discounts too, but the substance is lacking. There is a lack of really interesting routes, a lack of long-haul, a lack of Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian, a lack of LOT, and a lack of those summer routes where using miles might have really made sense.

Moral: good to check, good to know that the offers exist, but before booking you need to do the math. Because today, more than ever, not every premium offer is really a bargain.
