Airbus wanted to offer its audience a preview of the new booth designed for theA320. Through its official website, shots and details have been released that highlight a design that is intriguing to say the least, a far cry from the conventional versions we are used to. During 2021 it will make its debut thanks to JetBlue.

Testing is currently underway on what has been called the booth Airspace. Its main feature, impossible to miss, is the presence of only one row of seats on each side. This results in more space, which translates into significantly greater comfort.
It is still a work in progress phase, there will then be room for new tests: from measuring the perceived noise inside the cabin, to fine-tuning all the details related to the guaranteed passenger experience.
Revolutionary comfort
"The design of the new cabin is really unique," said Mariya Stoyanova, JetBlue's director of product development, during the launch of Airspace-I believe it will be able to make passengers feel at home while being in the sky."
The big revolution in Airspace is the guaranteed comfort level, which completely changes the rules of the game as far as long-haul routes are concerned. What is offered on board theA320neo, for example, is the wider single-aisle cabin with flexible and ergonomic seats, with more room in Economy Class seats and full recline in Business. Something appreciable, in part, aboard theA321 which, in this new generation, enables a further step forward in the development of the aircraft cabins of the future, which, it seems, has finally arrived.
Although in different modes, the Airspace experience is offered aboard several Airbus aircraft:
- A220
- A320
- A320neo
- A330neo
- A350
The first phase of testing
Testing is critical to being able to ensure a perfect, robust and reliable final product. "With the first tests, we wanted to subject the cabin to conditions far more probing than what might actually happen in the course of a standard flight," explained Michael Willmer, technical manager for the A320 Airspace Cabin.
This is only the first phase of testing, to be followed by a second one. It should be noted, however, that this model is definitely closer to the final version than what was proposed in 2017 at the Paris Air Show.
What else is new in the cabin
Varied the news passengers will enjoy. Here are the main ones listed by Airbus:
- The entry area of the aircraft has been totally redesigned. An all-new style that aims to surprise passengers, offering them an intriguing welcome to say the least. The company has also designed a highly customizable lighting system. This means that each airline will be able to come up with a different game, alternating colors of various kinds, perhaps picking up on the tones of its logo;
- Total redesign of the overhead bins, offered in an XL version. These are the largest cabin luggage spaces offered on aircraft in this category;
- Total redesign of the portholes. The new style designed for the "windows" of this innovative cabin ensures a significant percentage increase in the amount of light projected inside;
- Attention to the smallest details that also includes the shapes of the side walls, achieving a more elegant overall appearance. Comfort is not limited to what is perceived by one's body in the chair, but also by the impulses received by one's mind when placed within a given environment. A system of built-in sun shades is also added to the list of elegant features;
- The restrooms have been totally renovated. Touchless features mean passengers do not have to use their hands to take advantage of the common elements. Added to this are antimicrobial liners;
- Designer light system, consisting of a "hero" ceiling light and customizable full-color LED strips.
