Europe prepares to restart. With the Greece which officially reopens on May 14, theIceland which has forcefully entered the wish list of vaccinated Americans, and the Green Pass in the home stretch, the checkerboard of openings has not yet been defined. Or rather, not in detail. Thus, the "tourist chase" has begun. And if Athens is banking on the free flights for children, Malta definitely goes 0beyond. And it chooses to pay foreigners.
In this article:
Exactly! Malta pays tourists, offering them up to 200 euros. Let's see what the offer consists of.
Malta pays tourists: the proposal
The Malta Tourism Authority has decided to reimburse up to 100 euros per person, against a minimum stay of three nights in a hotel on the island. Thus, starting June 1 (the date set for reopening), those who vacation in Malta, Gozo and Comino will receive the much-appreciated bonus (the amount of which varies depending on the hotel category). More specifically, they will receive a refund of 100 euro Who chooses a five-star hotel. Staying overnight in a four-star hotel entitles you to a bonus of 75 euro, which fall to 50 If the hotel has three stars.
Here then, to say that Malta pays tourists, is not really correct. Travelers will not receive cash, but rather "credits" to spend within the hotel in the form of additional night, spa treatment, room upgrades, bar drinks, special dinners. And, the bonus could double. The Government of Malta has, in fact, given facilities the option of doubling credit, so as to "give" tourists 200, 150 and 100 euros (instead of 100, 75 and 50). Not only that: those who choose to stay in Gozo, the smaller island that is a half-hour ferry ride from Malta, will receive an additional 10% discount on booking.
After all, Malta pays tourists because tourists cannot do without them. In 2020, bookings dropped by 80% from the previous year's 2.7 million visitors. And the country's entire economy has suffered. Hence the idea of offering a bonus to boost arrivals, bolstered also by one of the most advanced vaccination campaigns in Europe.
How to get to Malta from Italy
Malta is very close to Italy, which is why it is a popular destination for the very young, who find fun and lots of beautiful sea here.
How to get to the island? By sea, the most traveled option is the Virtu-Ferries Ferry Who, every day, travels between the port of Pozzallo and the port of Malta. The ferries are of six different types and accommodate between 300 and 800 people (but capacities will be reduced due to anti-Covid regulations). Instead, the Grimaldi Lines ferry departs from Salerno and Catania once a week.
Most, however, choose to arrive in Malta by theplane. The most active airlines on the route are Ryanair, Air Malta and easyJet. Currently, a round-trip flight with Ryanair for August starts at 46 euros. A decidedly low-cost price that, combined with the government bonus and the additional bonus potentially offered by hotels, makes the island the perfect vacation destination cheap.
