Volotea, the History
The name Volotea alone recalls the concept of flight. This was the intention of Carlos Munoz and Lazaro Ros (founders of Vueling). The company gets its name from the verb "revolotear," which literally means "to turn around."
Born in Barcelona in 2011, the carrier took its first steps in Italy in 2021, launching operations from Venice-Marco Polo airport. January 2021 marks a pivotal moment for the fleet of the lowcost company, given the completion of the Boeing 717 decommissioning. Today the fleet consists of 24 aircraft, of which 20 Airbus A319-100 e 4 A320-200.
The carrier has been profitable since 2014 and is clear about its target audience. The proposals offered are mainly seized by leisure travelers, who account for 50% of the total. Another large slice (the 35%) is occupied by those heading to friends and relatives in other countries, aiming to spend as little as possible. The remaining 15%, on the other hand, is related to business travel.
Volotea, the routes
Several changes were made to the Volotea routes over the years. Suffice it to say that the carrier no longer turns its gaze to Asia after ending services to Tel Aviv. A total of 87 destinations, divided between 15 Countries:
