How to get vaccinated in San Francisco
The official statement from San Francisco International Airport emphasizes that the "go-ahead" represents a unique event. No prolonged program changes over time. At the end of the period specified by SFO, they will return to inoculating the vaccine to facility workers only.
However, there is nothing to prevent this initiative from being repeated at the end of the process, involving passengers again. Doors open, for now, to anyone, whether holding an airline ticket (international or domestic) or not.
Workers will proceed to the inoculation of the first dose of the vaccine produced by Pfizer. You will then receive a specific date on which you can receive the second one, so as to complete the cycle. In between, though, will have to spend 21 days. Something to consider in the case of travelers visiting the city for a few days.
The trial began on Tuesday, May 11, and will continue for three days, until the 13th of the month:
- Tuesday, May 11, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Wednesday, May 12, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Thursday, May 13, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Anyone who had a chance to take advantage of this opening should know that the provisional clinic for Covid-19 vaccination is located in the Edwin M. Lee International Departures Hall. As mentioned, anyone can join the queue, as long as they are at least 16 years old. As for airport workers, who can receive their first dose even after this limited time window are:
- in-house workers
- cab drivers
- limousine drivers
- Uber drivers
- Lyft drivers
Vaccine to children under 16 years of age
While attempts are being made in Italy to complete the vaccination process for citizens over 50, in the United States a new age group is being looked at with confidence: 12 to 15 years old. In fact, the Food and Drug Administration (Fda) has granted emergency approval for the administration of the Pfizer vaccine to such individuals.
A meeting was also confirmed for June regarding the evaluation of the authorization of the first dose inoculation for the Subjects under the age of 12. Interviewed by the "Corriere della Sera," Dr. Robert Frenck, director of the Gamble Vaccine Research Center, offered some elucidation on the subject.
He ruled out possible risks related to the fertility of young vaccine subjects, as well as hypothetical DNA changes feared by some. During his interview, he explained how a total of 2,260 adolescents were involved in the Pfizer vaccine study of 12- to 15-year-olds: "These are integrative analyses, in which we compare their immune response to that of adults. We don't know the so-called correlated immunity, that is, how high the immune response has to be to be protected, but we do know that with a certain immune response adults are experiencing a certain level of vaccine efficacy. If adolescents have the same response, that will lead to the same degree of protection."
