Lufthansa continues to amaze everyone for its attempts to find new ways to make money, or to cash in as much as possible to cut losses. In recent weeks we have had occasion to talk about the decision to open up the American lounges to passengers holding Priority Passes, likewise we told about how the owners of Amex Platinum can use the lounges for free Frankfurt and Munich.
In this article:
Today comes news that is even more surprising. The German carrier has decided to open all its lounges, particularly those in Frankfurt, allowing all passengers to acquire a ticket to access the various lounges scattered around the airport that houses the company's main hub.
It starts at €29 for the less valuable lounges, while access to the dedicated lounge for elite Senator passengers costs €39. But the most interesting thing is that a ticket is also sold to enter the first-class lounge, usually open only to First Class passengers or holders of HON status, the highest in the airline's loyalty program.
The cost of the ticket is 149 to enter a place usually precluded to most travelers and instead open to all passengers, even those transiting on a low-cost flight in the area.
But what do you get for €149? Currently very little as the company explains on the website.
At present, you can choose from a high-quality takeaway offering with a good selection of food and drinks. As soon as official regulations allow, additional services, such as a la carte, will be reintroduced into the offering.
Please note that to access our lounges, you must submit a negative Coronavirus test showing that you have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 or being cured of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. You will receive a warm welcome here: the Lufthansa staff will be waiting for you in the reception area to fulfill any of your requests and to provide you with information about your stay in the lounge and your connecting flight.
Work first, play later. The spacious office units in the First Class Lounge are fully equipped with everything you need: from a powerful PC to a phone system and notepad. You'll also find all kinds of power connections for your mobile devices-you won't need an adapter here.
When you are ready to relax, the lounge offers exclusive areas and everything you need to spend your time pleasantly. Perhaps you'd like to visit the library, the Cigar Lounge or the bar? The former boasts a wonderful selection of books, the latter refined tobacco products, international spirits and exotic cocktails. The range of products within the lounges has been adjusted to current guidelines, taking into account current constraints. Our current food and beverage offerings have been affected by this and are only available to a limited extent.
In conclusion
I have scheduled a ride from Frankfurt In mid-July, a travel on the 747/800 one of the few jumbo still in operation, might be an opportunity to try the experience. Of course, only if service in traditional form is restored in the meantime, thus being able to enjoy a starred restaurant dinner and related wine list. I will definitely not go in to have a packed lunch as is the case at the moment.
