It was supposed to leave on June 27 the new connection between Milan Malpensa and New York JFK, but U.S. borders are still off-limits to European tourists. The Alpitour Group company thus had to adjust by postponing the debut of this new route by almost a month.
In this article:
Italy opened to non-essential travel for US tourists who will be able to fly to our country without quarantine, but with the protocol of Covid-tested flights. The company already operates in this field with its connections with China and also applies the IATA travel pass protocol.
Lacking at the moment is the reciprocity of this measure that the administration Biden still hasn't taken despite pressure arrive from both sides of the ocean. Here, then, the take-off date has been moved to July 22, from which date tickets are on sale on the company's website.
The new link
The route opened by Neos is very busy. The connection to New York is operational with the American "three sisters" (Delta, United and American Airlines) and with Emirates. Barring any surprises, it will not be operated by Alitalia, which currently flies to New York only from Fiumicino.
The flight is currently scheduled twice a week: Thursday and Sunday. Departure from Milan is scheduled for 12:20 p.m., arriving in New York at 2:50 p.m. Departure from the American airport is scheduled at 5:50 p.m.
The fleet
Neos has a total of six Boeing 787-9s: four are new, mentre two were flying for Norwegian .
The 787s are configured with economy and premium economy seats, for a total of 359 seats.
The rates
Prices start at €269.99 one way for an economy promo fare ticket and go up to €924.99 for a premium freedom fare ticket.
The fares are not very aggressive, we have seen in recent months offers to fly to business class also for less than 1,000. In this case, Neos offers a round-trip ticket in economy at 540 euros. While to fly premium with a semi-flexible ticket, the demand is nearly 1,000 euros.
In conclusion
Neos is ready, it has the planes and slots, it just needs the green light from the U.S. Department of Transportation, after which it will be able to bring to New York the many Italians who are eager to return to Times Square.
