The airline made the inauguration of its new base official today with a special event attended by Carlos Muñoz, president and founder of Volotea, and Silvio Pippobello, CEO of Geasar S.p.A. There are 19 destinations that can be reached this summer from the Sardinian airport, 15 domestic (Ancona, Bari, Bologna, Catania, Wedge - what's new 2021 -, Genoa, Milan Bergamo, Naples, Palermo, Pescara, Pisa, Turin, Trieste, Venice and Verona) and 4 international (Bordeaux, Lyon - new 2021 -, Nantes, Strasbourg). Finally, for 2022, the route connecting Olbia to Marseille is also already available.
"The opening of the Olbia base represents another fundamental step in Volotea's growth in Italy and we are excited to strengthen our presence in Sardinia, a region that plays a strategic role in our development plans. Thanks to the opening of the base in Costa Smeralda, we will further strengthen the connectivity of the North of the Island by offering, to a growing number of passengers, even more convenient flight schedules and important connections to the rest of the Peninsula and France. From the airport, in fact, it will be possible to take off to almost all destinations in our Italian network, as many as 15 out of 20, and to 4 destinations beyond the Alps. With our flights we also aim to support the territory and its recovery through the economic spin-offs generated by the tourist flows that will transit through the airport, where we have focused on local staff: a total of 36 people will work at the Olbia base, 24 flight attendants -14 of them Sardinians - and 12 pilots. So we would like to thank all the local authorities who have accompanied us on this path of steady growth, along with the management of Olbia airport," said President Carlos Muñoz.
"Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport is happy to give a warm welcome to Volotea's operational base - added the ad of Geasar Silvio Pippobello -. This is a fundamental step forward towards a healthy and concrete development of our airport and tourism in our Island. This relevant result has been achieved thanks to the solid sharing of strategies and objectives between Geasar and Volotea, supported by a common spirit of positivity and dynamism. Volotea's Airbus A319 based in Olbia represents only the beginning of a fruitful collaboration and paves the way for new connection opportunities and the exploration of interesting destinations."
