It did not help the Pressure from the travel industrylet alone political ones with the demand for reciprocity, as the European Union has opened to nonessential travel by American tourists. The Biden administration has no plans to lift the ban on the travel for NON-essential travel by European tourists.

This was said today by a Reuters news agency report. The article mentions the intention to form a working group between the U.S., Canada and Mexico to study when and how to reopen the borders.
Currently, the U.S. prohibits tourists from crossing the border overland from Canada and Mexico; however, travel to/from Mexico by air is allowed while the border with Canada will be closed until at least July 21 in both directions.
The travel ban also prohibits all non-U.S. citizens who have been within the past 14 days in any of the nations of the European Schengen Area, the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), the Republic of Ireland, Brazil, South Africa, China and India from entering the United States for tourist travel.
How to enter the U.S. right now
There is only one way to enter the United States for tourism right now, a legal way even though it requires having many days to spend on vacation.
Holders of a valid ESTA can go for tourism by first spending at least 14 days in a nation not affected by the travel ban. So it would be possible to travel from Italy to Mexico, stay here for 14 days and on the morning of the 15th day take off for New York without any problem.
By transiting through a nation such as the United Arab Emirates, the Caribbean, or other areas excluded from the ban, one can then depart for one's preferred U.S. destination and move internally without hassle.
