Last October, Hilton had announced. that it would renew statuses to all members of its loyalty program, even those who had failed to renew status in 2020.
In this article:
In recent days, the U.S. chain has made a similar decision to last year's renewing, in effect, the level to all members until March 2023.
The announcement
All Elite Members of Hilton Honors will automatically receive an extension of their status until March 31, 2023. This applies to all levels and Also applies to members who would have lost their status in 2020.
The motivation is the same as last year, many travelers have not yet started traveling again, and business travel is still far from returning to the levels of the world before. With this extension, Hilton not only protects its customers affected by the pandemic, but also some travelers will enjoy years of "free" Hilton status.
The new requirements
Same as last year, Hilton also decided to reduce, though less than in 2021, the requirements to further renew status or level up.
Here are the requirements for next year's 2022 statuses (one of the three goals is required):
- Silver After seven nights, three stays or 17,500 basis points
- Gold After 28 nights, 14 stays or 52,500 basis points
- Diamond After 42 nights, 21 stays or 84,000 basis points
All nights earned in 2021 will automatically count toward 2022 state qualifications.
Milestone bonus requirements remain the same with one exception: In 2022, it will be possible to earn 10,000 bonus Hilton points for every 10 nights after 30 nights. Again, this is lower than the threshold in the pre-Covid world (40 nights), but higher than the 20-night threshold projected for 2021.
The possibility of gifting status also increased in 2022. Hilton Diamond members can gift Gold status to a family member or friend after staying 40 nights in 2022. In 2021, the requirement was 30 nights, but the threshold is generally 60.Â
Expiration of points
Normally, HHonors points expire after 12 months of inactivity, but even in this case there are some changes from the pre-pandemic world. As it did in 2020, in fact, this year the chain is giving another 12 months of validity to its "dormant" members to use their points at one of thousands of facilities around the world.
In conclusion
Once again Hilton Honors puts loyal customers at the center and does everything to make them feel special. These days people are traveling a lot less, even though travel in the U.S. has picked up returning to pre-pandemic levels, and the business world is still in the doldrums. And that is why Hilton has decided to renew statuses albeit choosing to slowly approach the requirements of the pre Covid world.
In any case, for all those who were able to take advantage of promotions such as the Fast track to the Diamond level with only 9 stays, the chance to stay Diamond for 2 years "for free" is really a godsend.
