A complex of twin skyscrapers in the Denny Triangle neighborhood of Seattle will host a Life-size Boeing 747. The unique geometry of the gallery at the 1200 Stewart Indeed, it offers the opportunity to create a visually appealing design that transforms a Boeing 747 in disassembled element suspended in the center between the two buildings. A striking design element that winks at Seattle's aerospace industry and will also serve as "usable space" for a lounge, thus giving it a second life.
In this article:
The aviation industry Boeing was founded in Seattle in 1916. Manufacturing-wise, it is the second largest manufacturer in the world in the civil aviation branch, and even today all factories are located in Washington state's largest city.
A Boeing 747 as an art element
The developers believe that The inclusion of the Boeing 747 in the gallery will help the two towers "take on an identity and ensure that it becomes a landmark in Seattle." All "through a visually appealing design that transforms a Boeing 747 aircraft into a dream space, imagine the disassembled Boeing 747 suspended in the center of the Gallery, displaying its raw aluminum fuselage like a work of art," Westbank wrote in the project description. "The rear assembly, landing gear and nose of the plane will remain intact, with only the wings being shortened to fit the space."
Johan Letovsky, among the proponents of the project, posted some pictures of what the twin skyscraper complex will look like. His focus was mainly on the Boeing 747: "Sometimes building a city can be as much fun as ever. In the case of our 1200 Stewart project in Seattle, we focused on the rehabilitation and installation of a discarded Boeing 747. It will be office and floating bar in a public atrium."
Sometimes city building is about embracing the fun and funky. In the case of our 1200 Stewart rental project in Seattle, that involves rehabilitating and installing a scrap Boeing 747 as a floating office & bar in a public atrium. pic.twitter.com/2HBGAYXqkC

The history of the Boeing 747
The incredible history of the Boeing 747 began on January 22, 1970 when it made its "Queen of the Skies" debut. The first flight was made in a historic livery, that of Pan Am. The debut commercial route went from JFK in New York to Heathrow in London. In all, Boeing made 1,600 until the late 1990s, allowing 6 billion passengers to board over the decades. The company has stopped production in 2022, after more than 50 years of operation. British Airways, Delta, Virgin Atlantic, Lufthansa, and KLM are some of the companies that have retired the Queen of the Skies.
After the end of production was announced, the last Boeing 747s were purchased from Atlas Air and will be produced in Everett. The news has turned the current examples in flight and those for sale into real pieces of history. In addition to 1200 Stewart's design, Boeings have also been major players in other surrounding. One model is become a museum thanks to British, while Virgin decided to make a real retirement party To say goodbye to the last 747 and Delta even to sell one to pieces on eBay.
The 1200 Stewart project
The project occupies an entire city block and consists of the following twin 47-story residential towers housing more than 1,000 apartments. The sculpted balconies, inspired by the Aqua skyscraper in Chicago, are molded into a "wave-like" facade. They are in fact the most striking feature of the residential towers because they will have gardens and trees that will give the structure a "sensuous shape." The 3-story-high structural glass gallery provides a pedestrian connection through the block and also houses a garden and access to the residential lobbies. Construction began in 2018 and work was expected to be completed in early 2022. As of a few days ago, however, it has been rumored to be ready by late 2021.
The residential towers, designed by Henriquez Partners Architects, will also have a rooftop patio, dog park and swimming pool. The complex will have 613 total parking spaces in a four-story underground parking garage with commercial and retail spaces separate from residential use. 1200 Stewart is considered one of the most ambitious and most anticipated projects of 2021 in the United States.
