Many loyalty programs apply Rollover point rule. I can't think of how to translate the concept of rollover into a word, let's say. the meaning is that excess points at the end of the year "roll over" into the following year Helping the user to retrain.

How rollover points work

In this article:

As we have explained in many of our articles all loyalty programs have levels, to level up you need to fly, spend, sleep... depending on the regulations of the individual program.

When a user at the end of the year has accumulated an amount of points or nights needed to renew his or her status, regardless of whether he or she has reached the maximum level or an intermediate one, he or she will find the excess points and nights carried over into the next year.

To better explain the concept I give two examples:

Hilton rollover nights. If a program enrollee Hilton Honors has reached the minimum number of nights required to qualify for Gold status, but has not reached the nights required for the next level, he will find in his profile the following year the excess nights stayed over those required for Gold status. To renew status he will then only need to stay the remaining nights to reach the minimum number required.

Flying Blue XP points. Air France and KLM's loyalty program allows users to find excess XP points earned the year before in their account the following year.

Alitalia's old Millemiglia program did the same with excess qualifying miles earned by members. All points were rolled over into the following year allowing status to be renewed in a simplified manner.

    In conclusion

The purpose of rollover points is to. Urge enrollees not to abandon a program even if the goal is met and continue to accumulate points that will not be lost in thin air, because it is good to remember this type of points cannot be accumulated except by traveling/sleeping.

Above is a small example showing my situation in the HHonors program. By taking advantage of the facilities in 2021, I have accumulated several excess nights, so Today, January 6, I am not starting from scratch for the renewal of my level, but from as many as 40 nights. To renew until 2024 my Diamond level I will only need to accumulate two nights. From 43rd onward will all be rollover nights that I will be in my profile next year to renew status until 2025.
