In recent months BA has reopened almost all of its lounges in Europe, including two in Italy, at Linate and Fiumicino.
In this article:
This one at Linate is the only official lounge of a company, in addition to that of ITA Airways, which is then the old Alitalia home. The alternative for all other passengers is the Leonardo Hall operated directly by SEA and open to business passengers, status holders and Priority Pass card holders.
Access
The lounge is open to all business passengers flying with OneWorld group companies such as British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus and Vueling, and of course to holders of elite status in one of their respective loyalty programs.
Location
The lounge is located on the ground floor of the terminal, just a few steps from the document control barriers, so it is perfect for leaving the lounge when boarding has already begun (boarding is via buses to the apron, so no risk of missing the plane).
The lounge
That BA is a premium company is also demonstrated by the presence and quality of this lounge.
The size is adequate for the traffic this hall can handle. The opening hours are back to the traditional ones and thus able to cover all the flights of the group companies from Milan city airport
In fact it is a huge open space, with partitions. When I entered it was deserted, but as the first morning departures approached it soon filled up. The only drawback is that it is located in the belly of the terminal with no view to the outside.
Food & Beverage
There are two small islands, one for hot drinks and some sweet snacks.
The second with the rest of the beverage and super alcohol offerings. Except for single-serve, the rest of the food offerings work through the app. You scan the QR that identifies the individual table and choose what you want from the menu.
The menu changes depending on the time of day, in my case breakfast was offered.
The only hot offering was scrambled eggs with bacon: IMMANGIABLE. They must be single portions to be put in the microwave, the result was a yellow-colored brick made into pieces, presented in a nice bowl, under a slice of bacon. Because it must be said, bacon is not the English translation of the word bacon. Good, on the other hand, was the fresh fruit salad.
Services
It doesn't offer much, but it's not the kind of lounge where you can expect a spa or sleeper chairs.
There are power outlets at each table, wi-fi, and a work area with a desk including printing facilities. Nothing else is needed for a 2-hour flight at most. And in any case it is already more than what ITA Airways offers upstairs.
In conclusion
Beautiful, clean and perfect for the role it has to play. The catering should be forgotten. Sure, they are British and one does not expect fine dining, but if one chooses to abolish the buffet and do table service the proposal definitely needs to be revised.
