We have written it many times, the real revolution of ITA Airways would happen as the new planes entered the fleet, and that is what is happening. In recent days, the first Airbus A350s, the model that will be the new flagship of the 100% Airbus fleet of the Italian flag carrier.
In this article:
A little more than 6 months after the start of operations, which started on October 15, 2021, in an unexpected and complex international context, on June 2, Republic Day, will take off from Fiumicino towards Buenos Aires the A350 dedicated to Roberto Baggio and we at TFC will be on board the longest connection of all those operated by the Italian carrier
The Airbus A350 represents ITA Airways' new Ambassador to the world, boasting the skillful craftsmanship of three prestigious Italian talents to evolve its image:
- The new uniforms born by the ITA Airways team together with the stylistic advice of Brunello Cucinelli
- The new interiors Of the planes created by designer Walter De Silva
- The new catering on board studied by Michelin-starred chef Enrico Bartolini
Airbus A350s
There are 3 Airbus A350-900s in the fleet. Having arrived at Fiumicino a few weeks ago, they are already ready to enter service, waiting for the planned fourth unit to be added in the coming days. ITA Airways again confirms its fleet sustainability plan: by 2025, the 75% aircraft will be new generation.
This will enable the company to become among the most Green in Europe and to have one of the youngest fleets in the civilian aviation industry.
The new Airbus A350-900 has 334 seats:
- 33 in Business with full-flat bed chairs
- 39 Comfort Economy with more legroom.
- 262 Economy seats
The introduction of the Airbus A350 into ITA Airways' fleet is an important step toward sustainability in line with the international "Fit for 55" protocol, whose goals ITA Airways shares. The arrival of the flagship enables the airline to equip itself with modern, environment-friendly aircraft distinguished by cutting-edge technologies with the goal of reducing over the '21-'25 plan period CO2 Of 750,000 tons.
In fact, thanks to the new aircraft, ITA Airways will benefit from. A reduction of more than 20% in fuel consumption and CO2 per passenger. On the A350-900 every detail was designed with aerodynamic efficiency in mind: from the curved line of the 3D windshield to the opening of the flaps. This cutting-edge aerodynamics, inspired by nature, Includes unique wing morphing technology that continuously optimizes the airfoil To reduce resistance and decrease fuel consumption.
The new cabins on board the fleet
The genius of designer Walter De Silva was inspired by the idea of bringing back to the interior of the aircraft a pleasant feeling and at the same time consistent with the mode of choice of a trip above the clouds. Comfort, elegance, simplicity, materials and colors are the starting point for designing ITA Airways' new aircraft interiors, all with the aim of meeting the need for "people centricity."
The colors blue and sand are predominant, but what matters most is the actual gradual setting of the light that changes smoothly, depending on the different situations on board. This last option will only be available on new long-haul aircraft where such an element is an added value to the quality of life on board.
The whole design naturally responds to what is the watchword in all sectors today: sustainability, one of the pillars of ITA Airways as well. In this sense, the design on board ITA Airways is non-wasteful, economically efficient, and has the task of conveying emotions in order to improve people's lives by generating profit that can be reinvested in welfare.
New uniforms
"The Italy of small things that make the biggest difference and of things done well that are good for the heart," is the focus of Brunello Cucinelli's lovable stylistic advice for the ITA Airways uniforms. Both companies, flags of made in Italy, are united by a common vocation: to bring Italian style into the way, that is, an Italy that can continue to be recognized internationally as the cradle of a culture inspired by the beauty of its landscapes, art and traditions.
This is the message of Brunello Cucinelli, which also makes regeneration its reference point in the development of its style. The entire path, which led to the stylistic consultancy for the new uniforms, was guided by sustainability and made in Italy, a project with a very clear vision and that, above all, had concrete spin-offs for the Italian production system. In this context, in fact, Brunello Cucinelli, guided exclusively by the passion of this project, without any economic return, gave his stylistic contribution to the creative development of the models. Once defined ,these models then will be produced and manufactured by the many medium-sized Italian companies, testifying to ITA Airways' attention to the country system.
The men's uniform consists of a dry-fitting jacket and trouser suit with a one-and-a-half-breasted jacket, in which the man's upper torso and shoulders are enhanced. For the woman, both a jacket and trouser match set and the usual skirt combination were chosen, always trying to balance a refined sartorial elegance with a contemporary touch given by clean lines and volumes.
The new uniforms will enter service on the entire fleet gradually over the coming months. This phasing is intended precisely so as not to waste money by managing the stock end of the old uniforms and thus making the operation neutral to the company's accounts.
