Qatar Airways in the Metaverse: how it works
The QVerse experience was developed by exploiting Unreal Engine by Epic Games, well known for Fortnite, one of the most popular video games in the world. It is a real-time 3D creation tool. The most advanced in the world. Added to this is another fundamental tool, MetaHuman Creator. This cloud-centered application enables the creation of digital humans, offering incredible veracity.
This is the most important step taken by the carrier in this area, since it is the first time an airline has developed a digital flight crew. It all came about through a basic 3-D human model known as Sama. This name translates to "sky."
Qatar Airways does not intend to slow down, always looking to the future, after being awarded the Airline of the Year by Skytrax. Added to this are five other titles:
- Best Business class
- Best business class lounge
- Best business class seats
- Best in-flight catering
- Best airline in the Middle East
Airline tickets in the metaverse
Is the future the metaverse? There are those who really believe that this will be the norm in a few years. Multimillion-dollar companies are divvying up virtual plots of land but, at this stage, it is all still preparatory, or nearly so.
Something concrete is already happening. In fact, it will soon be possible to buy airline tickets in the metaverse. The first company to bet on this project is Vueling, a famous Spanish lowcost carrier. A collaboration has been set up with Next Earth and IoMob, namely a famous virtual platform and a startup that offers digitization services.
