Piazza Venezia the temporary lounge in terminal 1
This lounge Is located in the "old" part of Pier A, that of Schengen flights, at Rome's Fiumicino airport. ITA Airways quickly ran for cover and opened what for years was one of Alitalia's two lounges at Pier A.
Piazza Venezia in fact opened yesterday and, as explained by ITA Airways to us at TFC., has its days numbered: by the end of the year or perhaps sooner, it will open the new lounge in the heart of the new Fiumicino. It will be the first completely new lounge for ITA since the other lounges at Fiumicino and Linate are what they were before Alitalia.
Previously, Alitalia offered an outdoor lounge that could accommodate all passengers departing from Rome for domestic and EU routes, and this Was only serving passengers in connection. Today, however, Piazza Venezia will have to serve all those departing from Fiumicino. Having only 80 seats, it is bound to be crowded, but as they say in these cases, it is still better than nothing.
What the lounge offers
Alitalia's former frequent flyers will feel at home, because, colors aside, nothing has changed.
There is a small bar counter, manned by a bartender.
ITA has not yet lifted the restrictions at the buffet, which as seen from the photos is still being served.
Unfortunately, there is still very little food on offer; hopefully it will soon match what is offered in other nearby lounges.
Who has access to ITA's lounges
Currently, this lounge is open to all business class or superior class travelers and to holders of at least premium status in the program Flying, ITA Airways' frequent flyer.
Still closed doors for Sky Team passengers, even for those who have the Elite+ level in the alliance program, which is pending whether ITA will continue to participate or not.
In conclusion
As said, it is better than nothing, of course, With only 80 seats it will be really difficult to access late summer when normal traffic returns. My advice: if you are arriving from a non-Schengen flight, Stop by the lounge at the E pier And move to the last to the gate of the next flight.
