We had written about it in recent weeks And now the ribbon cutting has come, British Airways has moved into terminal 8 at JFK in New York.
In this article:
With American and British Airways co-locating at Terminal 8, we will soon see a new premium check-in facility that will offer "personalized concierge-style service for high-end guests." From a passenger experience perspective, the biggest change will be in the lounges. Since December 1, three new lounges have been operating at Terminal 8, with the Capacity to accommodate up to 1,000 clients at a time.
The lounges are called Chelsea, Soho, and Greenwich, a small stroke of genius since these three districts are famous areas in both New York and London. They will be operated by both American and British Airways, so there will be elements of both airlines inside. Some of these lounges will also be accessible with the status of any other OneWorld company.
Chelsea Lounge New York JFK
The Chelsea Lounge will be the terminal's most exclusive new lounge and will replace the American's Flagship First Dining. It will be in a different location than the current lounges of the terminal and above gates 14 and 20. The lounge will be open daily from 4:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. and will accommodate up to 128 guests and will feature a brand new champagne bar, fireplace, luxury showers, and a dining room with a la carte menu.
Who will have access to this lounge
- British Airways First Class Passengers.
- American Airlines Flagship First Passengers
- American Airlines Flagship Business Plus Passengers
- American Airlines Concierge Key status holders on long-haul Flagship itineraries (this does not include premium transcon flights)
- Status holders British Airways Gold Guest List
Whereas. American Airlines will eliminate the first-class cabin by the end of 2024, this room will really be super exclusive so as is the case with the Concorde Room in London.
Soho Lounge New York JFK
Immediately below the Chelsea Lounge will be the Soho Lounge. It will be in a different location than the current terminal lounges and will be next to the Chelsea Lounge, above gates 14 to 20. The lounge will be open daily from 4:30 to 00:30. With a capacity of nearly 300 people, a spectacular view of the terminal it will have a library, a wine bar, a cocktail lounge and a highly curated buffet area.
The rules for accessing this lounge are as follows.
- American AAdvantage Executive Platinum and Platinum Pro members on long-haul Flagship itineraries.
- Holders of Gold status, or higher, in the executive club of BA.
- Emerald oneworld members with foreign frequent flyer programs on any oneworld same-day itinerary
- American Airlines Concierge Key on non-Flagship itineraries.
- oneworld first class passengers on airlines other than American Airlines and British Airways (for example, Japan Airlines will move to Terminal 8 in May 2023, so those first class passengers will access this lounge)
This lounge plays the same role as the First Galleries present in London, the selection at the door is the same, and similar, if not better, service is to be expected than in England.
Greenwich Lounge New York JFK
The current American Flagship Lounge will be renamed the Greenwich Lounge. This lounge was, arguably, the best lounge in an American company until the spring of this year, then the opening of the new SkyClub in Los Angeles changed the classification. With seating for 590 guests, not much will change from the old Flagship Lounge. The lounge will be open daily from 4:30 a.m. to midnight.
