Four months after its closure, the Centurion Lounge in San Francisco. It is now twice the size, has a new dining room and has been completely renovated.
What are Centurion Lounges
In this article:
These lounges are directly owned by American Express, currently in Europe there is only one lounge at T3 London Heathrow, and there are no planned openings, in the U.S. on the other hand they are very popular and are one of the main travel benefits for American Express Platinum holders.
I have visited many Centurion Lounges all over the world, and I must say that I have rarely been disappointed.
One of the advantages of Italian holders, compared to users with American Amex Platinum is that access to this lounge is allowed to the holder with a companion, and in case you also travel with the additional in the wallet of a second traveler, you will be able to access 4 for free. Instead, Americans must spend a minimum of $75k per year to gain free access with a guest.
San Francisco's new Centurion
With an area of nearly 1,500 square meters this hall located in Terminal 3 of SFO International Airport, Has now almost doubled in size and offers more seating, an additional bar with special wine tastings by Centurion Lounge sommelier and wine director Anthony Giglio, and a new menu by Liholiho Yacht Club of San Francisco Executive Chef Ravi Kapur.
"We are excited to start the new year with the opening of our Centurion Lounge at theSan Francisco International Airport" said Pablo Rivero, Vice President & General Manager, Global Lounge Experiences. "With exceptional food, wine and art inspired by Northern California, this well-appointed lounge is designed to leave cardholders refreshed and ready for their travels."
The Centurion Lounge will now have two wine bars and cafeteria areas, additional restrooms, private phone rooms, several private work spaces, and more.
The lounge features a new bar where guests can take advantage of a wine tasting program featuring four regional wines curated by Anthony Giglio, the lounge's sommelier.
"Because San Francisco is known worldwide for its world-class wine, the wine list in the Centurion Lounge at San Francisco International Airport is entirely dedicated to highlighting local California grapes," said Anthony Giglio, sommelier and Centurion Lounge Wine Director. "For our first season, I am excited to feature two of America's most famous and established wine regions-Sonoma and Napa Valley."
The lounge features a new seasonal menu celebrating Bay Area purveyors by Liholiho Yacht Club Executive Chef Ravi Kapur. The James Beard Award-nominated Hawaiian chef will continue to bring his unique style to Centurion Lounge with dishes inspired by his lineage and family memories, including Kochujang marinated chicken thighs, wild rice and coconut soup, black vinegar and honey-glazed carrots.
Travelers like to eat well
Consumers value premium dining options when traveling in airport lounges. A recent Amex Trendex survey* found that the majority of respondents (64%) said that premium food and beverage offerings are their favorite parts of airport lounges.
The lounge will feature two custom floor-to-ceiling wall coverings by abstract artist Tracie Cheng and a new interior design that takes cues from local vineyards, the landscape, and San Francisco's iconic fog to give guests a sense of relaxation.
Upcoming openings
American Express has announced plans to open new lounges at Reagan National Airport (DCA) in Washington, DC and the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport (ATL). 2023 and 2024, respectively. As can be seen, unfortunately, still no news in the old continent.
