Last December, Lufthansa's new 787 fleet took flight for the first time. Now the German airline has announced details of the routes that will be operated with this aircraft during the 2023 summer season.
In this article:
As happened with ITA Airways' A350/900s, Lufthansa also got its hands on KM0 Dreamliners., or almost. The company was also the same as ITA's Airbuses the Hainan Airlines.
And as occurred with the blue livery flagship, LH, too, decided to leave the fittings wanted by the Asian company to save time and money and get them on track as soon as possible.
In the coming months, Lufthansa's Boeing 787-9s will operate from Frankfurt (FRA) to North America, including Austin (AUS), Dallas (DFW), Denver (DEN), Detroit (DTW), Montreal (YUL) and Newark (EWR).
Routes
Frankfurt > Newark
Starting Dec. 1, 2022, Lufthansans will fly its Boeing 787-9 daily between Frankfurt and Newark with the following schedule:
LH402 from Frankfurt to Newark departing at 1:30 p.m. and arriving at 4:40 p.m.
LH403 Newark to Frankfurt departure 18:20 arrival 7:55 (+1 day)
The flight takes 9 hours and 10 minutes outward and at 7 hours and 35 minutes return. From May, however, as demand grows, they will return to fly this route with the 747/8, the queen of the skies whose Lufthansa Is the main user.
Frankfurt to Austin
As of May 2, 2023, Lufthansa will fly its Boeing 787-9 3 times a week between Frankfurt and Austin on the following schedule:
LH468 from Frankfurt to Austin departing at 10:05 a.m. and arriving at 1:55 p.m.
LH469 from Austin to Frankfurt departing at 4 p.m. and arriving at 8:45 a.m. (+1 day)
Farewell to the old A330/300 and switch to the new and comfortable Dreamliner where it will definitely be a better experience to spend nearly eleven hours flying outward and just under 10 eastward.
Frankfurt to Denver
Effective May 1, 2023, Lufthansa will fly daily to Colorado with the new 787s instead of the four-engine A340.
LH446 from Frankfurt to Denver departing at 1:15 p.m. and arriving at 3:40 p.m.
LH447 Denver to Frankfurt departure 17:35 arrival 11:10 (+1 day)
Frankfurt > Detroit
Starting Feb. 13, 2023, Lufthansa's Dreamliner will fly daily to Detroit on the following schedule:
LH442 from Frankfurt to Detroit departing at 11:05 a.m. and arriving at 2:25 p.m.
LH443 Detroit to Frankfurt departing at 4:15 p.m. and arriving at 6:20 a.m. (+1 day)
So goodbye to the A340 that is currently used for the flight that takes 9 hours and 20 minutes westbound and 8 hours and 5 minutes eastbound, for passengers this is really an upgrade in all respects and in all travel classes.
Frankfurt > Dallas
Dallas also starting March 26, 2023 will say goodbye to the four-engine aircraft made by Airbus to switch to the more comfortable B787. The flight operated 6 times a week between Frankfurt and Dallas has the following schedule:
LH438 from Frankfurt to Dallas departing at 10:10 a.m. and arriving at 1:40 p.m.
LH449 Dallas to Frankfurt departure 3:40 p.m. arrival 8:15 a.m. (+1 day)
The time to fly the more than 5,000 miles is 10:30 a.m. toward the U.S. and 9:35 a.m. toward Germany.
Frankfurt > Montreal
The route to Montreal is one of those operated only on the summer schedule, and at this time is bookable round trip for only 55k Miles&More points.
LH478 Frankfurt to Montreal departing at 2:20 p.m. and arriving at 4:05 p.m.
LH479 from Montreal to Frankfurt departing at 6:05 pm and arriving at 7:05 am (+1 day)
The flight is very short, taking less than 8 hours outward, and the return is often under 7.
Temporary business class
The five Dreamliners have a completely different product than those on the rest of the LH fleet, a different set-up than the new "Allegris" business that will be installed on all new planes ordered by the German group. And the reason is as explained at the beginning of this article. These planes were already configured and LH only customized the interior colors. For the avoidance of doubt, these seats are 100 times better than what LH offers on everything else but the A350 fleet.
In addition to these Dreamliners, LH also bought four A350/900 originally ordered by Philippine Airlines and again left the cabin configured as it was, with the consequence that now LH is located with 3 different business cabins And that the new planes with the new ones will be arriving soon, and final, new economy, premium, business and first cabins.
In conclusion
The LH fleet will change face in the next three to four years, and the premium cabins will definitely become more attractive. Perfect timing in view of the merger with ITA Airways for all Italian travelers.
