We have already written a couple of articles about the news in Central New York., the First and only Centurion Lounge outside an airport. Today, however, we must say thank you to one of our regular readers, the first one we know of who managed to enter this lounge as a Platinum cardholder and not the more exclusive Centurion.
Rules of entry
In this article:
Centurion cardholders have guaranteed access, subject to capacity limits. Access can be gained by using the dedicated app or by contacting the dedicated Concierge Service. Things are decidedly different for Platinum holders.
The first option is to use Resy's app., an application owned by American Express that allows people to reserve tables at restaurants halfway around the world, but particularly in the United States. The app shows free time slots and possibly the possibility of getting on a waiting list. In case a seat becomes free you will be called.
The second way is to make reservations by phone, calling the American number. As our reader confirmed to us, the Italian concierge "knew nothing about this lounge and was of no use." The number to call in the morning between 10 a.m. and 12 noon New York time is +1 212 597 9070. The good thing is that it is possible to make reservations up to 30 days in advance of the visit, allowing for early arrangements in case of a stay in NY.
Location
Centurion New York is located on the 55th floor of One Vanderbilt and is open daily from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm.
One Vanderbilt is located within walking distance of Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan's Midtown East area. To enter Centurion New York, one must check in at the Madison Avenue lobby.
The reservation is verified by staff at the two desks, and only they can give the green light to access the elevator that leads directly to the 55th floor of the skyscraper.
The lounge
The location is unique, and with this gem Amex is trying to ward off competition from Chase, which is giving Chase a run for its money in America, competition that benefits the holders of the various American cards, both for airport services and for all the benefits associated with points and travel.
Guests can choose from two different experiences: a cocktail reception with a spatial view of Manhattan and lunch or dinner with a menu curated by Michelin-starred chef Daniel Boulud, best known for his eponymous restaurant Daniel.
Each guest can then choose whether they prefer to dine or drink in the rooms with one of the best views of Manhattan. It is good to remember that admission is free, but For platinum customers, drinks are charged.
Our reader's story
On the first attempt our reader was unable to find a vacancy, the second attempt was successful and he was able to book an access thanks to Resy's app. Judging from the photos one would say that this location is definitely worth a visit.
