    It will be a busy summer in Veneto with the Northeastern airport hub which offers a wide variety of destinations and airlines, setting itself up as a model in its own right on the Italian scene.

    For the 2023 summer season-which runs through Oct. 28-the three airports in Venice, Verona and Treviso forecast an overall growth in passenger numbers of 11% over last year and a recovery of more than 90% of the volumes realized in summer 2019.

    The Venetian airport confirms its role as a third intercontinental gateway domestic-after Rome Fiumicino and Milan Malpensa-thanks mainly to the strengthening of connections with North America.

    From Venice to the U.S., in fact, all three U.S. sisters, American, Delta and United, take off. On March 12, the connection resumed Delta Air Lines from Marco Polo Airport to New York Jfk; while services to the airport will be restored on May 8. Hartsfield-Jackson of Atlanta.

    American Airlines, on the other hand, will return to connect Venice with Philadelphia from May 6: Direct flights will be daily and will be operated with B787-8 throughout the summer season, until the end of October 2023.

    United, finally, flies from Marco Polo towards New York Newark increasing capacity. Starting this year, in fact, the route will be operated daily with B777s instead of 767s

    For Canada, however, Toronto and Montreal are both served by Air Canada and Air Transat.The connection to Dubai also continues and intensifies: from the end of March Emirates has introduced a sixth frequency weekly, which becomes daily from the beginning of June.

    The opportunities presented by the opening to tourism of new markets such as theSaudi Arabia take the form of the recent launch of flights to Jeddah (from March 28) and Riyadh (from April 20) and the introduction of new connections on Jordan (Amman), Armenia (Yerevan) and Estonia (Tallinn). A battery of routes all offered by Wizz Air.

    However, two new airlines are also debuting at Marco Polo this year: the Icelandic Play, which has been flying to Reykjavik on a twice-weekly basis since June 29, and SunExpress, a joint venture between Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines, with a flight to Izmir.

    The main summer markets in terms of places for sale consist of, in order, Italy (12 destinations), the United Kingdom (7 destinations), France (7 destinations), Germany (8 destinations), Spain (6 destinations), and the United States (4 destinations).

    Of these, the countries with the highest growth over 2022 are. United Kingdom, Germany and the United States, which propose an 'equivalent offer to that of 2019.

    Verona Catullo Airport is seeing a sharp increase in summer connections to the UK and German markets.

    The former grows by +23% compared to summer 2022 ( and a +2% compared to 2019), the latter intensifies thanks to new connections to Berlin by Volotea(biweekly from May 26) and on Dusseldorf's Eurowings.

    In this way the Germany grows by 30% by number of flights from Verona compared to last year.

    The airport's largest markets are Italy (11 destinations), the United Kingdom (11 destinations), Germany (6 destinations), Albania (1 destination), Greece (9 destinations), and Spain (7 destinations).

    Great prominence of Neos, the Italian airline of the Alpitour Group, which has its historic base in Verona. A new flight to Reykjavik launches in the summer, adding to destinations to Egypt, Greece, Spain, Italy, Tunisia, Israel and Cape Verde Island.

    Treviso low cost format

    Finally, Treviso airport will reach 90% in capacity compared to 2019, the last pre-pandemic year. The route chessboard is dominated by low-cost: Ryanair and Wizz Air over all. The Irish airline in the summer launched as many 10 new routes departing from Treviso and bound for Cork, Croton, Gdansk, Katowice, Marseille, Menorca, Santander, Tallinn, Toulouse, and Zaragoza.

    The markets with the most places for sale are Spain (10 destinations), Romania (5 destinations), Italy (3 destinations), France (3 destinations), Poland (6 destinations), and Belgium (1 destination).
