Play launches new flight from Venice to Reykjavík
The airline also announces a flight from Verona to the Icelandic capital for the 2024 winter schedule
PLAY airlines, a low-cost airline from Iceland, will fly from Marco Polo Airport in Venice at Keflavík Airport in Reykjavík as of the next June 29. The route, served on Thursdays and Sundays, complements the connection to Iceland's capital from Bologna's G. PLAY also announced that with the upcoming winter schedule it will connect Valerio Catullo Airport in Verona a Reykjavík with flights once a week on Saturdays from January 20, 2024.
Established in 2019, PLAY will operate flights from Iceland to 37 destinations in Europe, the United States and Canada using a fleet of Airbus A321NEO and A320NEO aircraft.
"We are really happy to start operating from Venice this summer, our second destination in Italy after launching a flight from Bologna to Reykjavík last year. And with the winter schedule we will also add Verona as our third destination in the country." said Birgir Jónsson, CEO of PLAY.. "In recent months we have grown a lot, and with the 2023 summer schedule we are welcoming about 200 new colleagues to our team, receiving four new aircraft and launching 13 new destinations, including the lagoon city. The load factor of our aircraft is increasing significantly, as is the number of passengers carried, and bookings for the summer are going very well", Jónsson added.
New connections from Venice and Verona to Reykjavík will allow Italian tourists to visit a unique country from the spectacular nature, such as the mysterious black sand beach of Vik, the waterfall of Gullfoss, the geothermal spa of Geosea or the beach of Rauðisandur. They will, in addition, be able to fly from Iceland to North America, to destinations served by PLAY in the United States and Canada. Conversely, Icelandic tourists will be able to take advantage of the flight to discover Venice, the shores and cultural and scenic beauty of the Veneto region, as well as Italian Alpine destinations, including via Verona.

As we had already told you, PLAY Airlines also sets its sights on Italy. Play is a carrier born from a rib of WOW. The initial plan was to launch in spring 2020. Plans then, of course, changed due to Covid-19. A "small" postponement, only to have it launch in May 2021 and new liquidity, which allowed the company to win a Airbus A321neo with about 200 seats.
