The City of New York will soon require proof of Covid-19 vaccination for anyone who wants to dine indoors at a restaurant, see a show or go to the gym. This was announced by Mayor Bill De Blasio. Pending the reopening to Italy, New York City is the first major U.S. city to impose these kinds of restrictions. The new requirement will be phased in over several weeks in August and September.
New York's strategy to reduce positive cases
In this article:
The New York City mayor's decision represents the most aggressive step the city has ever taken. A strategy to counter the increase in cases caused by the delta variant. Data show that about 66% of adults in New York City are fully vaccinated and now proof of vaccination (as is done in Europe with the green pass) will be required for a wide range of indoor activities. Catering, fitness and entertainment are the areas where this requirement is in place. The move also comes as an important crackdown on those who have not been vaccinated.
The application of what is called the "Key to NYC Pass" will begin on September 13. It will have its own digital platform, separate from theNew York State Excelsior Pass, but the latter will also be valid, as will paper vaccination cards. "This strategy will give us more and more ability to fight (against) the delta variant," the mayor said.
The new recommendations
The highly transmissible delta variant continues unabated to affect Covid-19 cases in New York City. It is about 72% of positives, which is also why in the Big Apple it has been strongly recommended that masks be used in indoor public settings. "Right now we want people to get vaccinated and, very bluntly, demonstrate that life is better when you're vaccinated," added Mayor Bill De Blasio. "You have more freedom when you're vaccinated and you have far fewer choices and fewer opportunities if you're not."
Also among the proposals is an incentive of $100 for residents who choose to get vaccinated. Broadway and the Metropolitan Opera have already announced that proof of vaccinations will be required. On Monday, August 2, the United States met President Biden's goal of at least one dose of vaccine for 70% in American adults. The goal was reached a month late and amid a new wave of the delta variant that is overwhelming hospitals and prompting renewed pandemic regulations across the country.
The Biden administration's ban

Absolute ban for those coming from the Schengen area., as well as from the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, Brazil, South Africa, China and India. Anyone who holds a valid visa or resides in the U.S. and needs to return home Will be able to come to the United States.
