How to accumulate Finnair Plus points
Turning points from Membership Rewards to points from the Finnish carrier's loyalty program is super easy, the conversion rate is the same as for all Avios companies, which is 5:4. Conversion times are quick, points are credited to the personal profile within a maximum of 24 hours, but normally the time is less than 12h.
What routes to look for
Certainly the most interesting routes departing from Italy are those to the east, given the recent Thailand's borders reopened it might be an interesting choice to target the route connecting Bangkok and Phuket with direct flights from both Helsinki than from Stockholm. Flying to Phuket costs just over €50 in taxes and 72 thousand points for a round-trip ticket in economy or 128k in business.
With the recent opening of VLT routes, the routes operated by Finnair are valid to enter into Singapore, even for tourism, without having to undergo any kind of quarantine.
What makes these routes particularly attractive is the difference between the fees charged on the ticket by Finnair (about €60) compared to competitors British Airways and AirFrance KLM, which instead ask the passenger to disburse far more points and charge fees that are three times more expensive.
Important before transferring points
There is always a risk when converting points to a loyalty program, whatever it may be. Points cannot be converted back into the original currency, which means that the moment they are converted, they can never go back. So before transferring points, you need to check that the desired tickets exist, including evaluating the road of the possibility of optioning places waiting to have the points on their account.
By doing so, one does not risk being left holding the bag.. Points from loyalty programs, each with its own rules, sooner or later expire, so if you don't use them they are lost. That's why it's good to check everything before pressing the "convert" button.
