Sleeping using points in one of the most luxurious, and beautiful, hotels in Venice will become more difficult. The Danieli Hotel now part of the Marriott portfolio has passed from the American hotel chain into Canadian hands, joining the family's Fours Season, owned by Microsoft inventor Bill Gates.
In this article:
With the exit from the Marriott family, it will no longer be possible to stay for free using Bonvoy loyalty program points. The Danieli, known for being the oldest hotel in the lagoon city, will be the fourth facility in Italy for the group after Milan, Florence and Taormina and waiting to open On the Adriatic coast of Apulia, near Ostuni.
Now a major renovation will be launched on the three buildings that make up the Danieli, led by designer Pierre-Yves Rochon, work that will cost about 30 million And will be completed in 2024.
Hotel Danieli overlooks the Venetian lagoon, giving spectacular views of the Grand Canal and islands. The hotel also overlooks the Doge's Palace and is a short walk from the Bridge of Sighs and St. Mark's Square.
The three palaces that make up the structure date back to the 14th, 17th, and 19th centuries, respectively: the Venetian Gothic-style Palazzo Dandolo, the former residence of the Dandolo family; the Palazzo Casa Nuova, former seat of the treasury; and the Palazzo Danieli Excelsior, which houses rooms with balconies overlooking the lagoon on the highest floors. The three palaces house a rich collection of artworks and valuable antiques that testify to the city's history and are mixed with various modern amenities to meet the needs of discerning travelers from all over the world. Not to be missed at the Danieli is the Terrazza Danieli Restaurant and its gastronomic concept: a magical journey of the senses that traces the oriental influences of spice traders and mixes them with ingredients from the lagoon.
Sleeping with points at the Danieli Hotel
The handover will be completed at the end of 2022, until then the hotel will remain under the Marriott group and it will then be possible to stay using points instead of paying cash for the reservation. With the cost ranging between 85k and 115k points per night, compared to an average cost of over 600 euros, my personal advice is to pay cash and not use points for a conversion that is not too favorable.
If it is an upscale facility today, it is to be expected that it will be even more so when it reopens its doors under the banner Four Seasons, one of the most luxurious and exclusive in the world.
