We had talked about it in the past few months and listed this among the most anticipated new facilities in Italy in 2022. Now the Conrad Chia Laguna Sardinia is finally open. This is not the only new opening in the island, but it is definitely one of the most anticipated along with the 7Pines Sardinia by Hyatt.
Where the hotel is located
In this article:
No Emerald Coast, if that's what you were thinking. The new facility is located in the far south of the island, a countercurrent choice to all the major chains that focus almost exclusively on the northern part of Sardinia. The hotel is located in the town of Domus de Maria, in the province of Cagliari, in a prime location on the region's unspoiled coastline. The property overlooks the bay of Chia between the Monte Cogoni beach and the Dune di Campana beach.
The first Conrad facility in Italy
Here at TFC we are not only fans of the Hilton Honors program, but among the group's many insignia, Conrad is probably one of our favorites. After New York, Ko Samui, Dubai, it is about time that a hotel of this sign opened in Italy as well, and we look forward to seeing it.
This facility is not far from the Curio Chia Baia Sardinia opened last summer.
The structure
The 107-room resort offers a retreat for travelers seeking relaxation and exclusive services. Simon Vincent, executive vice president and president EMEA Hilton, said, "Conrad Chia Laguna Sardinia is an outstanding addition to our luxury portfolio in Europe and the third Hilton hotel on the island. Sardinia's natural beauty makes it a desirable destination for discerning travelers, and we are thrilled to once again partner with the Italian Hospitality Collection to introduce the hotel to Hilton guests around the world. With more than 10 new hotels set to join our Italian portfolio this year in locations including Rome, Padua and Venice, we continue to see significant growth momentum in Italy, demonstrating the strength and resilience of Hilton brands in a dynamic market."
Surrounded by nature
Perched on the southernmost tip of the Mediterranean island, the resort is surrounded by majestic natural beauty. Sand dunes, coastal flora and fauna, and pink flamingos give way to both Mount Cogoni and the Dunes of Campana, renowned as the most beautiful beaches in Italy that lie on either side of the resort.
These spectacular views decorated with natural shades of green and blue are visible from every corner of the property, with rooms, suites, restaurants, and pools boasting panoramic views of the iconic bay and lagoon. Chia is a protected wildlife habitat and home to countless species and wild grasses.
A unique design concept by Studio Marco Piva, Milanese masters of hospitality design. Inspiration comes from the hotel's coastal location above the bay with natural materials and neutral tones present everywhere resulting in a harmonious blend of Mediterranean elegance and simplicity.
The approach combines contemporary design with local materials such as Sardinian marble "Biancone di Orosei," a limestone rock derived from ancient corals and fossils that has a soft sandy hue. These locally sourced rocks have been used to create terraces, seamlessly integrating the resort with its surroundings.
The hotel lobby features elements of Sardinian culture, inviting guests to fully experience the cultural background of the place with details such as wall coverings in traditional Sardinian fabrics and furniture decorated with ropes representing the destination's nautical roots.
Conrad Chia Laguna Sardinia is suitable for both families and couples, the rooms are divided into two areas dedicated to each type of guest and equipped with dedicated pools, private gardens and pathways along with two restaurants for all tastes.
The Terrace serves a menu of Mediterranean and international cuisine in an interactive environment where guests can observe the cooking process along with panoramic views from the outdoor terrace.
Sa Mesa, nestled in an olive grove, serves local specialties with a contemporary twist, offering gourmets an authentic experience under the sparkling Mediterranean night sky.
Staying at Conrad Chia
Sardinia is one of the most expensive and exclusive destinations in Italy, especially when aiming for facilities of this category. This hotel is an ideal location to book using Hilton Honors Points To avoid paying the room bill.
Staying over the weekend after mid-August costs, for a basic room, 754€. Slightly cheaper is the nearby Curio with a price of 500€ per night. This is the price for the room only, for breakfast better be able to take advantage of the Gold level and get it for free As a possible upgrade to a better room.
Sleeping using points is equally onerous, and given the little difference between Conrad and Curio, I definitely recommend the former also because there are really little more points required compared to the 250€ difference if you pay cash for the room.
Hilton Honors, as it is known, uses dynamic pricing for award nights, it is always good to check the cash price before using points. For example by booking in late September, a perfect time to enjoy Sardinia at the end of the season, the cost of the room is significantly lower making it totally unprofitable to book using HHonors points.
