Today we respond to the request of some readers who asked us to explain how Avios points from British Airways, Iberia and Qatar loyalty programs can be combined.
In this article:
The reasons for this collaboration
Qatar is one of IAG's key partners, or the company that owns British Airways, Iberia and Vueling. All loyalty programs of these companies adopt Avios as currency to reserve award seats and recently also Qatar abandoned Qmiles to switch to Avios.
How to earn Avios in Italy
The best and most convenient way is obviously to fly with these companies. Then there are many other ways of Earning Avios points, such as through online shopping, hotel stays and car rentals or simply by responding to the surveys, so without spending anything.
Also Iberia and British Airways partner with American Express and it is therefore possible Transfer Membership Rewards points into Avios points.
How to transfer Membership Rewards points
Avios is one of the partner currencies of American Express and, thanks to the recent Marriage between Qatar and British Airways' loyalty program currency and Iberia, booking flights with Qatar is a breeze.
If you have never transferred Membership Rewards points to British Airways, first you need to connect the profile in the Executive Club to the Membership Rewards program. Operation that is completed in minutes and makes it possible to transfer points between the two programs.
To start the transfer, you need to go to the dedicated page on the Amex website, enter your credentials and decide how many points you want to transfer. Transferring points costs nothing, but credit card credentials are required for security reasons.
The website says it takes 2 to 20 days to see the points credited, In my case it took a little over 12 hours. I made the transfer at 9 p.m. and by 10 a.m. the next morning I had already received the credit on my profile in the Executive Club.
How to merge profiles
You obviously have to have an account in the programs you want to link together. Merging them is a piece of cake.
Once you have logged into your profile in the British Airways Executive Club, you need to go to the dedicated "Combine your points" section. Here you will be able to choose which programs to combine: Iberia and Qatar.
Entering the dedicated section requires entering your Iberia account credentials and following the wizard.
Similar procedure with Qatar. You log in through the site.
For security reasons, there is a double protection system with an OTP code that is sent to the cell phone number registered on the account.
And a few moments later you can proceed to move Avios points from British Airways to Qatar and vice versa.
In conclusion
A great Opportunities to move points between three of the most attractive loyalty programs in the European market. Iberia is great for Flying to the U.S. in business class for just over 30 thousand Avios, Qatar is perfect for Flying with the world's best airline to the east and British for Flying into the EU while paying only one euro in taxes. All this using only one currency: Avios points.
