Italy's reward traveler credit card market is one of the saddest in the world, with the exception of American Express and Membership Rewards points, we really have very few alternatives.
In this article:
Over the years, the following have been on the market credit cards linked to British Airways and Iberia. As well as to the Hilton and Marriott hotel chains. Now, however, they are a distant memory. Available to Italian FFs are. only the papers of Lufthansa, but available only and exclusively to those who have a checking account with Unicredit, cards that allow all daily expenses to be turned into Miles&More miles.
That's why when I discovered Mooncard I immediately requested this card corporate credit to go along with my Amex cards.
Why Mooncard is better than Amex for those who want to fly Flying Blue
As always, it is a subjective matter, Mooncard is, like many of its competitors, a company that offers business expense management software, not an actual bank.
The different types of credit cards it provides are designed for companies that need to give employees a means of payment and to handle the subsequent expense report. In my case, however, the argument is purely mathematical. Today I can turn one euro spent in the company into 1.5 FB points. The same euro spent with a corporate Amex brings me only 0.66 FB points, a huge difference.
In addition to this, Every transaction made with Mooncard, which relies on Visa, generates points. From gasoline for company vehicles to all expenses made through PagoPA, to normal transactions made in-store, online and/or through paypal or other online payment systems. In addition, the cards I gave to my employees generate FB points that end up in the company account, and from there to my personal account.
Mooncard is not suitable for everyone, but may be perfect for those who primarily target FB as a frequent flyer program and no other means of payment in the world allows for similar conversion in terms of point accumulation.
Mooncard and additional features
As mentioned, we are not talking about a means of payment, but of a package that includes a software (the thing you pay for) of the cards and related benefits. I write this because in recent months I have often been contacted by readers who after reading some content about Mooncard have written to me complaining about this or that point, about this or that service. Sometimes comparing Mooncard to an American Express Platinum.
This comparison should not be made. Currently the product must be taken only and only if you want to get two and a half times the points you get with an American Express not forgetting that you accumulate points with EVERY transaction, none excluded.
You have to do a cost/benefit calculation on this. Because if you think Mooncard's priority pass is the same as Platinum's, you are wrong. The same goes for travel insurance, while the annual coverage on electronic devices is attractive precisely because tablets and business phones can break down and thus it is useful to have coverage for accidental damage.
TFC's exclusive offer
TFC readers can also take advantage of a dedicated offer which allows you to save 30€ on the monthly fee Of the premium product, the one that accumulates 1.5 FB points for every euro spent and get a welcome bonus of 21 thousand FB points. Enough for a ticket to fly from Linate to New York paying only taxes.
In conclusion
I have been a happy customer for over a year. Of course, I could be much happier if the software, which is the strength of this product, was 100% optimized for the Italian market, but in the meantime I'll take the points and say thank you and at the end of the year when I pull the sum between how much I spent on this card and how much it saved me in travel, I am absolutely in the positive. And that's what matters to me.
