ITA Airways' Volare points reset, solution soon

In recent days the Volare program has zeroed in on qualifying points, those you accumulate not to book an award ticket, but to obtain/renew status.
The regulation
In this article:
The ITA Airways loyalty program regulations state. 12/31 of each year the qualifying points are reset to zero and, depending on the result, each enrollee will see his or her status renewed, or not, for the next 12 months.
This was in a normal situation, but Volare began operations in the spring, and this was, among many other reasons, one of the reasons that prompted the management of ITA to renew status ex officio to all, regardless of the outcome on the field.
Despite the renewal, ITA proceeded to reset, as per the regulations, the qualifying points accumulated by each user. For example. Singapore Airlines in January 2021 had decided to renew the statuses ex officio. and to rollover the points in the next collection, but here it is a choice of each individual company.
The problem
In the reset operations, however, a small problem occurred. The points were physically cancelled in mid-January, resulting in the cancellation of even the points accumulated in the early days of the new year that, instead, were to remain on members' cards for 2024 status.
This reset sent many members "into a panic." Here at TFC we received dozens of messages, emails, and even in-person contacts at the gate. The confusion was also generated by conflicting answers being given by Volare's customer service.
The solution
We at TFC were able to speak with the frequent flyer leadership of ITA Airways and it was confirmed to us that this was an error and that the points accumulated in 2023 will not be lost, on the contrary.
To make up for the problem, Volare has decided to calculate the points accumulated in the early days of 2023 for both the 2022 and current collections. This means that some users may have been able to cross the status line thanks to 2023 points.
By the end of next week, then, it could be assumed by Valentine's Day, the points accumulated in the early days of 2023 will become visible again on accounts.
Obviously we give ITA confidence and in any case it is important that they are credited again by the end of the year, although we must say that the deadlines announced in recent months on Volare have hardly been met.
In conclusion
One could say all's well that ends well. What is certain is that Volare points continue to have very little value. Until there is a prize table, partners and the possibility to use them as in any other program and not only as some cash and miles. However, that could all change soon with the sale to Lufthansa and the move to Miles&More.
