Wizz Air, many new summer routes from Italy: Albania is the new entry

Airlines are preparing for the upswing in global tourism. The vaccination process continues and a sharp return to old habits is expected from May 2021 onward. Many companies are investing with a view to a "normal" summer, one that can put up 2019-style numbers.
In this article:
A clear example is given by Wizz Air, which has increased its air connections to southern Italy, offering a new summer schedule to explore, with an eye toward Sicily, Puglia and Sardinia.
A firm and positive step toward the near future, but without being able to set aside the deficit statistics recorded over the past few months. Even in this 2021, in fact, the numbers are merciless. Looking at Wizz Air alone, passenger traffic in February plummeted by 87% compared to the same period in 2020 (just before the start of general closures in the various countries). The vaccination process and the arrival of new variants further reduced ticket purchases, even compared to January 2021. It went from 574,000 passengers to 383,000. A decline that will hopefully be a distant memory starting in the warmer months of the year.
The new links
In 2020, many people preferred to devote their vacations to discovering the beauty of Italy. A trend that could, in part, be repeated this year. While waiting for a clear and detailed program related to the health passport, many could plan a trip to Italy. For this type of vacationer, Wizz Air's announcement is a real godsend. Starting in June 2021, it will be much easier to indulge in a relaxing vacation in Sicily. All at significantly reduced costs.
This is due to the fact that the Falcone Borsellino airport in Palermo was chosen as the new base, which will complement the one in Catania, which surprisingly opened in the summer of 2020, that is, at the height of the pandemic. A total of seven new routes, with two Airbus Dedicated A321s. A valid program also for those who intend to take advantage of Palermo as an intermediate stop to try their hand at international travel. From the Sicilian airport, in fact, it will also be possible to reach Basel and London Luton.
Here is the prospectus to consider for the upcoming vacations:
- Palermo-Bologna - daily frequency
- Palermo-Basel - Tuesday and Saturday
- Palermo-Verona - Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday
- Palermo-London Luton - Monday, Wednesday and Friday
- Palermo-Pisa - daily frequency
- Palermo-Turin - Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday
- Palermo-Treviso - Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday
This, however, is not the only Italy-related news announced by Wizz Air. Four other domestic routes are also added to the list, one of which involves Milan Malpensa: an airport from which it will be even easier to reach Sardinia this summer thanks to daily frequency flights. Here is the schedule presented by the company:
- Bologna-Brindisi - Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday
- Pisa-Brindisi - Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday
- Milan Malpensa-Cagliari - daily frequency
- Catania-Pisa - Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday
A dream summer in Albania
Every year, travelers are looking for locations still little traveled by mass tourism, so you can take advantage of competitive prices. Added to this is the opportunity to enjoy natural beauty without having to face oceanic crowds. The dream of every vacationer who cannot afford, due to work obligations, to take a break away from the peak season.
Albania has been offering such a possibility for some years now. 2021 could have been the year of the final blowout, but considering the pandemic, it is easy to speculate how costs can still be quite low for a vacation in a true Cinderella overlooking the Adriatic Sea. From Dhermi to Llogoraja National Park, up to Ksamil.
A dream vacation facilitated by Wizz Air, thanks to new routes added to the Tirana base, effective from May 28, 2021. Looking particularly at Italy, with frequent connections to Pescara, Genoa and Ancora, and almost daily connections to Rome Ciampino (5 days a week). Here are the new routes, already bookable, with costs from 19.99 euros:
- Tirana-Pescara: Monday and Friday
- Tirana-Rome Ciampino: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday
- Tirana-Genoa: Tuesday and Saturday
- Tirana-Ancona: Monday and Friday
