In 2022 we saw so many new hotel openings and the trend is set to grow again this year. The opening of new hotels gives the opportunity for new experiences and opportunities to travel with points or to accumulate points with new trips. Analyzing the major new additions to the Marriott group, I have selected what I think are the most significant new additions to the Marriott portfolio that add to the more than 8,000 hotels of the world's largest hotel chain.
In this article:
Over the course of 2023, Marriott will open more than 35 luxury hotels in its various portfolio brands including The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, W Hotels, The Luxury Collection, EDITION, JW Marriott, and Bulgari Hotels & Resorts. Of course, we at TFC are not only interested in luxury options, rather we are always looking for the best opportunities at the best cost.
Rome debuts Edition
We have arrived at the big moment. The Edition brand will debut in Rome in the spring.. This sign is a new type of hotel in the Marriott porfolio that fits into the luxury tier. It is designed for the younger generation who are looking for something different than brands such as St. Regis and Ritz Carlton, but who are not looking at the design that is offered in the W chain hotels. This will be the first Edition in Italy and joins the Rome W that opened its doors during the year just ended.
Fairfield debuts in Europe and opens in Copenhagen
Despite having more than 1,000 locations around the world, this will be the first Fairfield by Marriott hotel in Europe. While in the U.S. this is one of the lowest-cost brands in the Marriott family (and we are often talking about hotels with little to tell), in the rest of the world this brand offers a quality product at a truly competitive price, as in my recent experience in Kuala Lumpur.
The Fairfield Copenhagen will have a dual soul, as 234 rooms under the Fairfield banner and 81 rooms for Marriott's long-stay Residence Inn brand will coexist under one roof.
The St. Regis comes to London
The iconic St. Regis brand is coming to the UK with this new property located in Mayfair, London. It will welcome guests in 2023 with a personalized experience, including butler services, and British-style luxury amenities. The hotel has 196 elegant rooms and suites, a signature restaurant, a spa, a fitness center, and a jazz bar.
In Nara, Japan, The Luxury Collection opens.
The new Shisui a Luxury Collection Hotel is expected to open by summer 2023. The luxurious property will feature Japanese architecture and unique amenities. The property has a prime location, on the grounds of a historic temple garden, Shisui, just a 10-minute walk from the Kintetsu-Nara train station, which connects to Kyoto and Osaka.
The Ritz Carlton debuts in Melbourne
This will be the second Australian hotel for the Marriott-owned brand, Launched in 2019 in the coastal city of Perth. The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne. The journey into luxury will begin right at check-in, when guests will be taken up to the 80th floor, where the grand lobby is. It will also notably be the tallest hotel in Australia, with an indoor heated infinity pool. All 257 rooms and suites will feature handmade glass panels and enjoy breathtaking views of the Melbourne skyline.
In Florence and Sydney comes W
For Marriott, hotels in the W sign are a flagship luxury offering for new travelers. After Rome, this banner is preparing to land in Florence with the opening of the new W Florence and to open its doors in the iconic Sydney property (pictured above), which has been ready since 2020 but whose opening has been postponed until October this year.
The hotel will have 120 rooms, including 20 suites. The Extreme WOW Suite, W version of the Presidential Suite, will offer a spacious living room and a private terrace with breathtaking views of the Duomo and the church of Santa Maria Novella. Adding rare and highly sought-after indoor and outdoor living spaces, the ground floor, which will house the W Lounge and Living Room, will blend perfectly around a partially covered central courtyard.
Moxy Tromso
It is no secret that I am a true lover of the Moxy chain. I find this recipe perfect for every type of traveler and every type of trip. Moxy Tromso, scheduled to open in May 2023, will be a record-breaking hotel. Located above the Arctic Circle, it will be Marriott Bonvoy's northernmost hotel and the perfect place to experience the Northern Lights and summer midnight sun. There will be 200 rooms in traditional Moxy cozy style plus a sky bar on the 11th floor overlooking the archipelago.
JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge in Kenya
An undoubtedly very original and innovative project. This will not be the classic hotel, but a very different facility in keeping with African style and culture, geared toward offering visitors an experience in keeping with the typical safari spirit. The JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge Will include 20 private tents, including one of the "presidential" type, with canvas covering on the floor, and two connecting four-poster suites.
The facility, which will be built on the banks of the Talek River, will be complemented by a restaurant, a lounge bar, a spa and a large outdoor terrace. At this location it will be possible to see performances such as performances of traditional Masai dance.
The Ritz-Carlton Paradise Valley-The Palmeraie (Arizona)
Opening in the fall of 2023 is the new Paradise Valley property with 215 rooms and suites, a nearly 1,000-square-meter Presidential Casita with six bedrooms, and a "killer" pool. There is also a huge two-story luxury spa with 11 treatment rooms.
All of these hotels are already bookable using Bonvoy points and in many cases there are also promotions dedicated just to the launch period of the facility.
